"overpatterned coral braceletted second youth beach chic"

My wardrobe has just been shot down in flames.

lol @mp, i have to admit the one time anyone has asked (to my face) when my non-existant baby was due i was indeed wearing a ws dress

i'll give it to you on the cut - it's quite often not right, usually their uniquely odd combination of waaay too much cleavage, nowhere near enough leg and an empire waist.

but you're wrong about the prints - perhaps they look a bit much en masse in a shop, but individually they're often spot-on, and certainly much more restrained than a lot of the gaudy stuff around elsewhere at the moment.

i don't see why women of 30s plus, and in particular women up to an 18 (since their sizes are generous), shouldn't be able to buy pretty, casual, age-appropriate stuff. currently floral dresses are ten a penny, but they haven't always been that easy to find, and not all of us want to graduate to "classics" or tailoring just yet and frankly have too much self respect for b***n

so frumpy? some yes, some no, you pick and choose. samey? absolutely, but it must sell or they wouldn't keep doing it.

am tempted to go try on the op's dress since i'm pearshaped and i reckon it would work for me

reducedfatkettlechip · 05/05/2009 21:57

My WS dress has a tie round the waist, but it does have the classic odd proportions elsewhere, granted.

Now I think about it, WS really do just trot out the same old stuff in different colours or prints each season..

I think WS is for curvy women. I love their suff, but it doesn't suit me. I am very tall and very slim. I know their models are tall and slim, but in RL nicer on chubbier and shorter people I think. Love love their clothes and think it can be very sexy. Depends what you find sexy. Primark and Peacock is not my idea of sexy.

HarlotOTara · 06/05/2009 07:04

I quite like WS but then I get 50% off!! (smug emoticon!) Agree about the low cut bit though - always seem to need a woo woo vest, love the jewellry tho'

MP I think your damning assessment applies more to fat face. It's hard to get an outfit from there without ending up looking like a stallholder on a ibizan beach. But I think with WS you can pick and choose and get some fab things. I have a much-admired skirt, beloved flattering wrap dress and lovely summer trousers from there, all have lasted for years and none of them are beachy-looking.

muffle · 06/05/2009 11:01

oops that was to goat not mp!

MP I just assumed it was you with the beachy putdown

howtotellmum · 06/05/2009 11:14

I just think that all WS dresses look almost identical apart from the prints.

They are imo for women aged 35-50 who want everyday, slightly aging hippy style, and aren't too bothered about looking glam or sexy. I have a couple of tops and Ts from them but that's about it- skirts are very Boden-y and always too long for me.

Went in WS on Saturday.

It was heaving with 40-something women. I looked in the mirror. There was me, and me, and me, and me and me... Loads of us. All the same. All looking at the same tops for the school run.

I shall not go in there again.

muffle · 06/05/2009 11:23

That is v. true fircone. Our WS has some daft stairs halfway along and the staff are constantly having to come and help the regiments of identical 30- and 40-somethings with their buggies.
