Denim jackets - yay or nay or what's the alternative ?

I'm after a multi purpose jacket & I think a denim jacket seems to fit the bill perfectly

fat face denim

I want it to go with (obviously not jeans) but canvas trousers, dresses like this one

Boden red dress

Trouble is, I feel like a bit of a, ahem, greaser in it.

Will be grateful for alternative options please

Denim jackets are back in again - although not with jeans as you say!
I would personally go for a lighter shade of denim and maybe cropped?

rubyslippers · 29/04/2009 09:58

i think the jacket you have linked to is really nice

good colour

don't wear with jeans but with other stuff i think it is a good stop gap between winter and summer wear

BrendaAndEddie · 29/04/2009 10:33

or a blazer type thing - loads in Zara

Amandoh · 29/04/2009 11:36

I think the jacket is a bit straight up and down and would benefit from being a little more fitted.

I prefer this one from Miss Selfridge.

I wear mine with dresses, skirts etc - I love mine but my Mum always says "Oh, you're not going to put that scruffy thing on again are you?"

(maybe that's why I love it!)

Having said that, I would like another jacket - not denim - that I can wear with jeans so will be watching this thread with interest!

Galava · 29/04/2009 11:46

I love my denim jacket.

but obviously not with jeans ... although having stated that I have worn them with white denim jeans. Is that a no no ?

AnyFucker · 29/04/2009 14:39

have gone right off denim jackets, a bit too 1990 for me

Zara have some lovely linen blazers in at the moment

They are quite summery though, although the navy one would stretch across a couple of seasons

I bought the slubby dusky pink one this week, I love it

goes with dresses, jeans, linen trousers and looks fab with a plain white top underneath

squeaver · 29/04/2009 14:47

Oh I love Zara jackets, must have a look.

I'm very fond of my old denim jacket too, so pleased they're back in this year.

IcantbelieveImForty · 29/04/2009 14:51

had a look on the Zara website & didn't seem to be able to work it properly.

Perhaps I need to be looking at linen blazers then...?

I am quite long in the body, so have to be careful with the fit.

Galava, worn with white or cream denim is good, wearing any matchy matchy jacket & jeans is very bad

yes i got a linen zara one last year i wore and wore.
its in their basics range, striped.

bishboschone · 29/04/2009 16:46

I may be wrong but for me always wear more of a crop style that finishes on the waist. Depending on how tall you are that style jacket can make your figure look boxy. I have a very small waist and am short so if you are opposite feel free to ignore

JustCallMeGoat · 29/04/2009 16:51

i HATE denim jackets with dresses. they look good on we cute teenagers but few fully grown, fully norked woman can get away with it without a whiff of sam fox c.1988.

IcantbelieveImForty · 29/04/2009 17:48

Bishboschone, I am long waisted & fairly short - 5ft 3, but I have a long flat (& saggy!)bottom, so very conscious that a short jacket would draw attention.

jcmg - rest assured, I don't look anything like sam fox !

maybe but I think sometimes trying to cover things up can actually accentuate them ..thats what I find anyway ..I personally like denim jackets with dresses..I wear them and I look cool!! lol
