Help needed! Top to go with trousers for a wedding

pcworld · 28/04/2009 14:30

We are going to a wedding at the end of May - I am on a v tight budget so was thinking of either wearing existing smart black trousers - OR smart white linen trousers - with a nice blouse and heels. The trouble is, I can't seem to find a suitable top. I am v small on top and a lot of the stuff I am coming across seems too voluminous. I think I need something with ruffles and definitely not something low cut! Can any of you style gurus help or advise ..? I also have a nice pair of olive green linen trousers, so think I am covered on the bottom half at least!

Coast have some good tops, though not cheap. Would this be a good colour for you?

pcworld · 28/04/2009 16:55

Hmmm v nice but too expensive unfortunately!

dont wear black trousers unless they are flowing cut and/or luxurious fabric. you will look too officey

white linen lovely, esp if you are slim

small on top is good - there are lots of lovely styles that women like me cant even look at - high neck, sleeveless, showing off a sexy back etc

KristinaM · 28/04/2009 17:13

i coudl never wear this type of top, for example

do you need to cover your shoulders and if so do have a a shrug or similar?

JackieNo · 28/04/2009 17:34

This would work with the white trousers, and maybe even the olive ones.
Kind of elegant but maybe a bit plain.
Coral - quite pretty too.

Tillyscoutsmum · 28/04/2009 17:39

quite like this and it comes in another colour

pretty

zara have some beautiful, floaty, weddingy tops to go with white trousers at the moment

I bought a creamy beige one, with subtle white embroidery around the neckline this week

and a slubby dusky pink linen blazer that looks absolutely fab to pull the look together

they would look good at a wedding but equally as good to wear again with jeans, denim shorts and on holiday etc etc (so a good investment, not a "one-off" buy IYSWIM)

add silver jewelry, pretty shoes and voila

not sure if zara have a website to link for you

will check when I get a minute

BrendaAndEddie · 28/04/2009 18:55

boden ruffle front silk thing?

AnyFucker · 28/04/2009 18:58

there is a website (in Spanish) but not very linkable, sorry

but you will see what I mean immediately if you go instore

my top was 25 quid and the jacket 49 quid

I don't think that is too bad for stuff I will wear agin through the summer and for hols

KristinaM · 28/04/2009 19:11

oh AF i have just bought that jacket but in the navy

the pink is LOVELY, really subtle colour. sadly doesn't suit me

LetThemEatCake · 28/04/2009 19:13

how's £28?? I bought a nice top from Next the other week, available in pink or grey, ruffles on shoulders etc etc - would you like me to link?

pcworld · 28/04/2009 19:25

Oooh, thank you, ladies! Jackieno - love those Monsoon tops - will take a closer look, something like the first one would be ideal.

I agree that the black trousers are probably way too officey!

Yes please re: link to the Next one!

here you go

KristinaM · 28/04/2009 19:56

lovely colour LTEC

not too dressy so you would be able to wear it again PC

very summery with the white linen and good accessories

missblythe · 28/04/2009 20:00

Wallis ahve a good selection of sale stuff at the moment, for example:

or this one

with white trousers

missblythe · 28/04/2009 20:06

ooh, kristina, great minds eh?

I saw the navy jacket too, but have a nice navy cardigan and am over the white/navy nautical look (for the moment anyway)

the pink seems to suit me (I think)

I looked for other colours as might have bought another, but didn't see any, did you?

will you wear yours with the sleeves rolled-up and all nonchalant-like or like summat outta Miami Vice?

LetThemEatCake · 28/04/2009 20:25

ROFL AnyFucker!!!

pcworld · 28/04/2009 20:37

Mmm can't get the Next link to work so off to have an actual look at the Next website. Not keen on a dress as don't like my legs! Good work with all the ideas and links, ladies

LetThemEatCake · 28/04/2009 20:40

go to next, and search 'flamingo top"

2 will come up, one in black and white, and one with a choice of red/ pink or grey. It's the second one I mean.

AnyFucker · 28/04/2009 20:42

the next link worked for me

pcworld · 28/04/2009 20:52

Very strange, I am getting error messages for the Next website so clearly 'tis not meant to be tonight! Will try again, though.
