We have been invited to a very fancy wedding in July and I will be 8 months pregnant.

I haven't a clue where to even start looking for something to wear...I don't know what to wear, I don't know what will be comfy...

I need to look smart and have some kind of shoulder covering wrap or shrug as ceremony is in a Catholic cathedral.

I am red headed, 5ft4 and will have the delightfully rotund shape of a lopsided globe on legs...

Any help or advice will be gratefully received! Cheers m'dears x

i wore this to a wedding at 30 weeks.

i had the black version but they do it in purple.

it was v comfy and apparently looked good.

don't forget to get maternity tights, or larger ones than you normally wear when not pg (as someone who forgot!)

have fun.

Anything here ?

or here

KnickKnack · 27/04/2009 22:20

Do you have any preferences?

Dress? long/short?
or top/trousers?
what kind of colour?

Knickknack, that 1st one you linked, Picchu, has some lovely stuff, this being my favourite.

Alibean, I am going to a wedding in June when I will have 4 weeks to go, but my dress couldn't be described as 'classy' so I won't recommend it to you

sleepwhenidie · 27/04/2009 22:27

If you want to splash out then look here Most of the dresses should also be ok for when you aren't pregnant as well though.

Assuming you have looked at Isabella Oliver?

KnickKnack · 27/04/2009 22:32

tiffany rose
some of these are divine

Do you have a price limit?

KristinaM · 27/04/2009 22:42

you will not be rotund, you will be slim and gorgeous but with a bump. you will look pg not fat. honestly, its easier to look good at 36 weeks than 4 weeks aftre the birth when you will be flabby with leaking norks but everyone expects you to be back to pre pg size

lots of lovely dresses on these links

you will be glowing and lots of other women there will be

missorinoco · 28/04/2009 10:14

hanaflower - good taste!
alibean - forgot to mention, i am shorter than you and look a little like e.t. whilst pregnant. you will look good!

AliBean · 28/04/2009 13:32

Oooh thanks everyone for the suggestions...I don't have time to look properly now but will have a peruse later and see if any take my fancy.

KristinaM - thanks for the encouraging words, I am still my normal size but with a bump now but as this is first pregnancy I don't know how I will look by then so its a bit daunting!

On that note - when would you go ahead and order the dress - would you wait til nearer the time to see how things go?

Also hats...a big hat would look good with a bump? or not?

Thanks for all the help!

i woudl buy the dress now if you see something you like as its unlikely that you will fit into a " normal" dress by 36 weeks.

unless you normally dress in flowing empire waist tents of course

if you buy now you will get the best choice

i don't get swollen ankles when pg but lots of women do so i would hold off buying shoes right now in case they dont fit.

remmeber your feet might go up a size in your first pg. and they dont go back later

i didnt need to wear flats and was ok in a medium heel as long as it was not too thin IYSWIM

are you normally a hat person? what about these little hair decoration thingies that are in all the shops? not fascinators, little flowers on clips or headbands

i think a big hat on a 5'4 woman might need heels to balance it out

MadameCastafiore · 28/04/2009 16:10

I want to be pregnant again so I can wear this

Wtth a huge hat and some wedge heeled shoes so you are not too uncomfortable!

KristinaM · 28/04/2009 16:13

oh yes madame c.its lovley

but OP is a red head so wont black be too dark? can you wear a white dress to a wedding these days?

KristinaM · 28/04/2009 16:24

i wore the Lola dress from tiffany mae to a winter black tie event when i was about 30 weeks and i felt fab!

their customer service was EXCELLENT too

MadameCastafiore · 28/04/2009 16:27

I'd wear black but maybe accesorise with a shocking pink or really bright purple shoes and bag.

missorinoco · 28/04/2009 17:00

i would order the dress you like now. it would be gutting if you chose, held off, and then it was sold out.

not sure on the hat front, you could have fun trying them on.....

fascinators were v popular at the last wedding i went to.

KnickKnack · 28/04/2009 18:58

I think its impossible to guess what size you will be as its your first pregnancy.
With my 1st I didnt look pregnant at 5 months.
I had a small bump only really noticeable to people who knew I was pregnant, at 6 months.
...but I looked like I had an elephant strapped to my front by 8 and 9 months, had an absolutely huge bump!

If buying in advance, I would try to go for something in a material that had quite a lot of "give" in it, if that makes sense.

BABYBUFF205 · 16/11/2009 06:20

Black leggins and a floaty top would look nice or www.motherwearclothing.co.uk/80401/info.php?p=2&pno=0&pid=1886613&cat=&ack=9&search=&sought=this top i've seen !
