Bra straps on show

Is it just me or does anyone else hate this look? A vest top or dress with spaghetti straps or straps in a different place to your bra so that your bra straps are on display. Normally not even a pretty bra but an old greyish white one.

hmmph couldnt wear spaghetti straps if wanted too would cut though my sholders like a cheese slice,,with the weight of my obbie doos!!

fastasleep · 28/04/2005 12:40

Hmm yeah spaghetti straps are out for me too...waaaah I'm only 18 though that sucks! Oooh god I left the potatoes baking in the oven..

almostanangel · 28/04/2005 12:41

big boobs are more trouble then theay are worth

TheVillageIdiot · 28/04/2005 12:42

I have to say, I will wear shoe-string straps but I (touch wood) am v lucky in the booble department. The thing that lets me down is the size of my upper arms!

PsychoFlame · 28/04/2005 12:44

Large boobied lady here too (Tis Flame).

I have spent six weeks trying to find tops that suit me and cover bra straps. I have found... two! Just two.

Wearing strapless bras when you are hooooooooooooge is fine for a night out, but bloody uncomfortable for a whole day.

I hate the bra strap look when the straps are in different places to the top, but I am at the stage of really not caring - why should I have to wear sleeves when others don't???

Oh, and the "hidden" support ones generally make you look like you have a rubber ring round your chest - or are measured in dress sizes so I need a 16-18, which is all flappy and huge round a size 12 waist.

Bravissimo charges £30 upwards for tops for large boobies, which I can't afford.

Pretty, clean straps are about all I can do (and normally not overly pretty because of course, if you have hammock sized bras you clearly don't deserve pretty straps either ).

Oh, and I like pretty things showing too

Psycho doesn't care if her bras (or thongs from what I've seen ) show... she is a hussy!!

If people don't wanna see these things - don't look too closely. Or, as I said when I wanted to walk down the corridor naked while I was in labour - If people stare they are just RUDE!!!!

PsychoFlame · 28/04/2005 12:45

pretty things = pretty thongs

BarbaraX · 28/04/2005 12:50

oops i like the fact the it is now acceptable to see bra straps, and the new colourful colours available, no more of those dull bras for the fuller figure. I also need to wear a bra, and so many times vest straps move, however wide. Just choose a nice bra for the occasion, and a nice colour (dont have to be same colour as the top)I like this new trend.
sorry to disrupt your united moan about the new trends

motherinferior · 28/04/2005 12:54

My crimson bra straps are perceptible beneath my scoopnecked top today, and personally I think they contribute to the general gaiety of nations.

So ner.

JoolsToo · 28/04/2005 12:56

don't like straps showing or thongs - why do you want to show people your knickers? bit odd that imo!

it looks scruffy too!

lou33 · 28/04/2005 12:57

it's the one shouldered bra strap look that gets me, i dont mind any other display of undies

Sponge · 28/04/2005 13:03

Agree it's worse with a one shouldered or halter type top. Not as bad if the straps are directly beneath the ones of the top, especially if they're a pretty colour.
In general I prefer to keep my undies to myself though. Really hate the thong out, especially if there's skin and then thong.

Yeah it?s funny this, when I was young we did all we could to hide our bra straps, now they are always on show. Agree lou re one-shoulder look, ugh. But I am not that bothered really as logn as bra is pretty and nice colour. Mind you I wouldn?t do it but then it doesn?t do to show my bras off and I am well past the age of spaghetti straps anyway. Not that I was ever in them really (fastasleep I sympathise).
MI, is that your new bra contributing to the gaiety of life? (in which case, show it to all!)

Gobbledigook · 28/04/2005 13:23

Pricey though for a strappy plain vest!!

motherinferior · 28/04/2005 13:25

Aha, Clary, thought we'd see you here!

I have to admit that having shelled out for nice lingerie I rather like (a) showing to a wider audience than my underpinnings get in my Respectable Middle Age (b) demonstrating that Respectability has not completely overtaken me, despite my footwear.

JoolsToo · 28/04/2005 13:26

yeah! but is it 'common'?

clary · 28/04/2005 13:30

Yeah well MI I need a little light-heartedness after the trauma of the ?helping out in schools? thread
My new underwear has not arrived yet...
like those bravissimo tops tho, but do they work? (the halter neck one esp...)

lou33 · 28/04/2005 13:30

i don't deliberately flaunt my undies, but i don't really care if they are displayed by accident

Listmaker · 28/04/2005 13:33

I agree that straps that are almost under the vest straps is Ok but a bra under a hlaterneck or one shoulder top??? No please don't do it!

My days of spaghetti straps are long gone too and I hate my upper arms too much for vest tops unless it's 100 degrees or on holiday!!

But the thong thing is hard because my trousers just go down when I sit down and I can't help them showing a bit. Not keen on it but can't help it!! It's especially criminal when your ar*e is as huge as mine too!!

beansmum · 28/04/2005 13:37

those bravissimo tops aren't exactly pretty though are they? So it's either wear a top with big thick straps or live with your bra sticking out a bit, I think it looks fine. Wouldn't wear a normal bra under a halterneck or one shoulder top though, that's just weird.

clary · 28/04/2005 13:37

teeavee · 28/04/2005 13:38

I agree re. one-shouldered tops - I think they're naff
Also, I'm LONGING for low-slung trousers go out of fashion, so we can have warm lower backs and properly hidden bellies once more.

NO to thongs, I can't help imagining them going up the bum crack every time I see them - pooh

NO also to 'sellotape-look' bra straps.

clary · 28/04/2005 13:38

oh sorry to post twice there's something wrong with my computer
