Which one of these would look best with a skirt?

I don't 'do' summer footwear very well. I want something practical to wear as I do a lot of walking and running around, but would also look ok to wear with a skirt.

So these

or

these

Erm neither,

both fab with jeans tho.

sorry

ScorpiowithabigS · 25/04/2009 15:51

I don't like either, but i think maybe the second ones as you will be able to see your ankle?

Rhubarb · 25/04/2009 15:53

Ok ok, I know you are supposed to wear smart shoes or sandals with a skirt. But I'm a bit of a punk at heart and wouldn't hesitate to don Docs with a skirt.

But Docs are too heavy for summer. I work in a school and need comfy summerish shoes. I like converse, but obv I don't want to end up just looking odd.

It would depend what kind of skirt but I would definitely go for the second pair. Not sure about black baseball boots with a summer skirt tbh. They are nice though.

woodenchair · 25/04/2009 15:55

converse would be fine. not the high tops though, what sort of skirt?

giantkatestacks · 25/04/2009 15:56

Rhubarb - I live in converse but can only really make them work with a maxidress - anything shorter and they just look odd (I think you need more foot showing). I've got some really cheap pump type trainers that do the job better - they look like ballet flats but are trainers iyswim.

Rhubarb · 25/04/2009 15:56

Well, any skirt really. I've got a few shortish skirts (just above the knee) and one or two over the knee skirts.

I've even got a dress! But keep that one under yer hat.

Ah, so I'm thinking the trainer types would be better then?

Rhubarb
I wear plimpsoles all summer as I walk loads.
Converse are nice but the trick is to have the low cut ones, as low as possible so they stop you looking stumpy ( unless you are 6 ft and super slender of course)
Whatever the style issues the higher shoes fit on your foot the shorter you will look - more so in summer with no tights than in winter

Or maybe thats bollocks...

Rhubarb · 25/04/2009 15:59

Ooooh, I never thought of that! Mind you I do have long legs so I suppose I can get away with it a bit more.

The trainers, being camoflage, would go with anything I'm thinking?

OP posts:
giantkatestacks · 25/04/2009 16:01

more like this maybe?

or this

traceybath · 25/04/2009 16:02

Would birkenstocks not do? They're flat, comfy and work well with skirts. Also tk maxx have them in lots.

Always think conversey type shoes look cool with trousers but less so with skirts.

Rhubarb · 25/04/2009 16:07

WHITE????????????????????

You want me to wear WHITE PUMPS???????????

NO!

I like things that are a little bit different. I don't like flats, I don't do pumps at all, or trainers, but I do quite like converse and the camouflage just made it that little bit different.

Thanks for looking but really, white pumps?

OP posts:
traceybath · 25/04/2009 16:13

these are pretty and very comfy.

But they may be a step too far . . .

mrsmaidamess · 25/04/2009 16:19

Do not, I repeat DO NOT wear ankle Converse with a skirt. And the camoflage ones are fine if you spend your day at the skate park with your baseball cap back to front. If you must have converse, choose a lighter colour. Has it got to be converse?

mrsmaidamess · 25/04/2009 16:20

if you like DM's, what about something like this?

bohemianbint · 25/04/2009 16:21

trainers and skirts make me think of whatserface who owns the sweet shop in Balamory.

mrsmaidamess · 25/04/2009 16:22

bit more summery

bohemianbint · 25/04/2009 16:27

I like mrsm's first suggestion.

DontCallMeBaby · 25/04/2009 16:28

I'm hankering after these for the summer. Or white (not the bright 'optical' white, but the off-white) Converse. Not high tops though, they just look wrong with a skirt.

giantkatestacks · 25/04/2009 16:34

lol - no it was more for the shape than the colour...gry marl or black...

I suspect that after the white pumps suggestion Rhubarbs head exploded....

Rhubarb · 26/04/2009 13:49

Sorry, I had to go and have a lie down after looking at those white pumps!

I like the Doc Marten sandals but not at that price. I'll trawl through ebay to see if they've got any.

(and not red either, definitely not red!)
