I have bad hair and no idea what to do with it. Help me, please!

Am going to book a hair appointment next week, and have no idea what to get done.

I have thin, very straight shoulder length hair. Left to its own devices it flops limply down. Or I scrape it back in a ponytail. It's dark brown, with loads of grey bits highlights au naturel.

I'm supposed to be getting married at some point this year, so would want it up then - am thinking not too short. Otherwise happy for something drastic, but am rubbish at doing hair so has to be something idiot proof.

I would love to have Good Hair, I look awful. Help! Please!!!

hard to say without pictures but my hair sounds very like yours. I find that layers help.
I also invested in straighteners - cheap from Superdrug, rather than "the" brand. I use them to add body, rather than to straighten; your hairdresser will be able to show you how to do this. I also now use finishing products - e.g. wax and hairspray to give body and shape. I stayed away from these for years as am a bit tomboyish but they really do make a difference. My hairdresser taught me how to use these products too and it has made a huge difference.

Hi Moreta - I have hair very much like yours (including the natural highlights) and would love to know how you get on and if you end up with what you want. My experience with hairdressers is that I tell them what I want (and show pictures) and they end up doing exactly what THEY want. Notabadperson has given so much good advice I'm going to act on all of it. I've also gone for layers and it does seem to work.
Good luck! Bad hair can make you feel so bad about yourself (at least it does me). We all deserve to look FABULOUS!!!

Thanks for the advice notabadperson - I'll ask if the hairdresser can show me how to use products properly, I've tried using wax before and ended up looking like I'd been dipped in a chip pan.

I know what you mean, Danny, I hated the last haircut I got. It wasn't what I was after at all. There was something really frumpy about it and I felt worse when I came out than I did when I went in. I'm hoping that if I'm a bit clearer about what I want done before I go this time it'll help.
