That's under dress/tunic things for summer? I'm 38, 5'10" with reasonable if skinny legs...

As long as the top is long, it doesn't matter imo.

Just make sure they are a decent thickness.

(saw a woman in very very thin white ones yesterday, and it wasn't good...)

woodenchair · 24/04/2009 08:03

My mil is wearing them and she's 58!

Have to add that she looks fab, she wears them under dresses.

thirtypence · 24/04/2009 08:18

My boss is 57 and wear leggings a lot with long floaty tops and under skirts - she looks great in them. There is no too old - just maybe too short tops!

FlyMeToDunoon · 24/04/2009 09:01

Agree- don't show arse.
Mine are top of calf numbers so cover the knee.

It is a completely different vibe to the horrific eighties style.
Man

TsarChasm · 24/04/2009 11:17

This is quite encouraging.

And so sorry to be a total numpty, but if you have on a dress or skirt/leggings combo - that'd be flat shoes right?

I'm quite tall and everyday don't tend to wear high shoes and sandals - although I do love them.

Juxal · 24/04/2009 11:47

It's not the age, it's the length of the tops.

FlyMeToDunoon · 24/04/2009 12:00

I saw a pic of Trinny wearing wedges with a fifties type dress and leggings-looked v. good.
Personally I don't do height so I wore my Birkies and am planning to get some cheap ballet pumps.

MammaPiggy · 24/04/2009 12:51

i love them with floaty summery dresses, i dont like showing my legs bare so they are perfect for me. personally i think any age could wear them as long as they are with a nice long top/dress

JosieMiller · 24/04/2009 12:55

HOW CAN THERE BE AN AGE LIMIT
to what in all reality is a pari of tights?

JosieMiller · 24/04/2009 12:56

althoguh i do think if an alien came down to earth atm he would think that most women had black and white legs

MammaPiggy · 24/04/2009 13:04

yes i agree josie they are just black tights without the feet bit really arent they?

i love to wear them with nice pretty sandals, i love my black leggings i do!

noddyholder · 24/04/2009 13:11

If you buy decent ones they also have a corset like effect.very economical

PheasantPlucker · 24/04/2009 13:40

NoddyHolder - where do these wonderful garments hang out? Where can I purchase them?! (I am loving the idea of a corset like effect!)

noddyholder · 24/04/2009 13:43

Wolford do some that ar about £15 and they are really good shape and really last plus hold everything in.I got them in TK maxx but john lewis might do them

TsarChasm · 24/04/2009 14:01

Oh I'm all enthused now. I've always thought that they were for lovely young things only, but I'm starting to see that they're opening up some possibilites for me.

I love those little summer dresses but never thought I could wear one; this way I could

Rhubarb · 24/04/2009 14:04

It's not how old you are, but if you have the right shape as everyone else has said.

You need to get it bang on with leggings or else you look a right dork. My sister used to wear them all the time with short t-shirts. She's a dumpling shape, bless and it really didn't do her any favours at all.

Under a long shirt or a dress they look great on the right person, no matter what the age.

sazzerbear · 24/04/2009 14:04

I would say 10 years old

PheasantPlucker · 24/04/2009 14:05

Thanks NH

MABS · 24/04/2009 18:09

i live in them with tunics at nearly 42

GreatGranGranny · 14/10/2010 01:51

I am 63 and I wear them. I wear them in black, with a small black suede heel, and a longish black light weight slightly swing jacket that comes nearly to my knees. That way I am stylish (In my opinion) and still becoming for my age group. My mom who is 84 tried them on and I could see that if your knees are sagging and bulging regardless of age/size, you might not want to wear them. Anyway, it depends on how you put it all together. And I must add, that I had up the ante for the leggings to get the appropriate look.

So there is no age limit-just size/shape and styling limitations.

MuGGGhoulWump · 14/10/2010 02:01

I'm 32 and I bought some.
I won't be wearing them.
They don't look good on me, they aren't flattering.
I could wear a long top, but then I'd look like I need a long top...

No, that is not what I want.

bellavita · 14/10/2010 06:45

I am 45 and wear them with little dresses/tunics with knee length boots, high heeled wedges, flats. I am 5ft.

purplepeony · 14/10/2010 07:31

I am 55 and wear them, but before you all faint, let me say I am a slim size 10 and most people think I am much younger than I am.
I make sure that my tops are almost to the knee.

Saw a great pic of Joannna Lumley wearing them with a long tunic and she is 64.

higgle · 14/10/2010 15:53

No age limit, I work fo r a care charity and little old ladies of 80+ wear them - a couple quite stylishly. I'm told they are warm and comfy and easy to get out of and of course none of them would dream of being seem dead in elasticated waist trousers!

notinmypocket · 14/10/2010 16:45

If even higgle's little old ladies wear them there's hope for all of us!
I'm 39 and think it's great for winter with boots and a nice casual mid thigh dress/tunic whatever you will call it.
I'm of to the shops!
