Would it be odd to go to a spa on your own for the day?

There's a spa near me that I fancy visiting and maybe I'm being antisocial but I like the idea of going on my own, just taking a good book. I can fully relax, have a swim, a couple of treatments, etc without having to be chatty. Would I stick out like a sore thumb, I've never been to a spa before?

I've been alone and loved it. Felt totally comfortable.

Missbopeep - Imo, Champneys is a right rip off with poor quality treatments, poor quality products (Champneys own brand) and hideously overworked and underpaid therapists.

I have been many times over the years (unimaginative DH) and the quality of their spa days and break packages has gone so far downhill it's a joke. I have banned him from spending any more money on them.

Have done it on my own and with others and on balance def prefer going on my own so I can
TBH I've never really understood why anyone would feel at all awkward or self-conscious about going to a spa - or a restaurant hotel theatre etc on tier own. Why on earth would anyone else judge - or indeed mind?

PS ... so I can please myself!

Btw agree about Champneys. Very poor. Ditto the Sanctuary.

I totally agree about Champneys- I went many years ago before they were taken over and became Champneys. I now have a lovely spa on my doorstep - part of Bannatynes-but in a beautiful historic building- and it's a fraction of the cost.

I've been to spas on my own. Is very relaxing. In fact have never been with someone else.

Used to live in a village with a Champneys in it but despite living there for 5 years I never went there.

Pancakeflipper · 12/02/2013 22:39

I went alone once.

It was heavenly.

I did go on a day when they aren't busy (Monday).

I read. Had brunch. Had a couple of treatments.
And then the staff came to see me ( because I was all alone) to see if I would have my hair washed a blow-dryer by a trainee in their very expensive salon for free. I got a head massage and deep conditioning treatment, a cocktail and mini Choc eclairs.

Ooh it was soooo lovely.

Always go to spas on my own. I would hate to go with others!

Ditto the Champneys reviews. Went years ago when they were small and was heavenly. Went 4 or 5 years ago and felt like I was on a horrific 'girlie spa weekend' conveyabelt. I go for amazing, restorative, specialised and restorative treatments. Champneys no longer offer this.

The day spa in my high street not 10 miles away from a local Champneys is a million times better. And cheaper. And it ain't cheap!
