Is anyone a barrister (or does anyone know one)? I need to know what to wear to a function

I am going to some drinks at one of the Inns of Court (afterwork rather than dinner) to celebrate a friend becoming a QC. What should I wear? I don't want to be either over-dressed or under-dressed.

To be absolutely totally safe would say a suit or day dress in a relatively subdued colour. But you may find some folk dress more exuberantly...
