I like dresses. I can't walk in high heels. What shoes?

I love wearing dresses but I always have problems finding the right shoes to wear.

I wear heels (2-3inches) for work, because I sit at a desk most of the day so don't have to walk too far in them, but given my genetic inability to walk well in hells, plus a 1 year old son who is a crawling Linford Christie, they are just impossible at home. But I really want to wear something other than jeans when I am at home, going to the park, supermarket etc.

I am 5 ft 5, curvaceous (14-16), and have biggish calves but dainty ankles so knee high boots don't tend to fit. What type of shoes should I wear with a knee-length dress?

i meant heels not hells (although that perhaps accurately describes how i feel when wearing them!)

what about wedge heels? I too can't wear heels but wedge ones seem better somehow.

I wear ballet flats with dresses - I like decorative ones and have a pink and a purple linen/leather pairs for this summer, with flowers one.

wedges are better because they distribute the weight more evenly and don't interfere with your centre of gravity

BlingDreaming · 21/04/2009 11:23

Or pretty flip flops in summer - if you find ones with a slightly thicker sole, they will be more comfortable.

Hmmm. Wedges sound good. I have some lovely silver ballet flats which i adore but they never seem that supportive for all the walking around I end up doing with the buggy - might try and find some slightly better ones.

the great thing about wedges is that you get all the benefits of high heels (elongated, toned calf etc) but they are easier to adjust to

I always favour flip flops for those non-formal occasions when I can't get away with being barefoot. There are some stylish ones around - they don't have to look like you're going to the beach.

i buy my lovely (you can't tell they are) orthopedic shoes from ebay in the states.

i have arthritis in my feet but have to dress smart for work and was nearly crippled by anything here. they go by the brand name Dansko and are soooooooooooo fabulous. i can wear their heels for a whole day with not a problem. i have just ordered my eigth pair as they are so nice to wear.

no i don't work for them, just love the shoes.

oooh slug - thank you. I have only ever been able to find one pair of knee high boots that fit me, so that website looks great!
