Help - Spring jacket required please

Having just done the school dash in my old anorak/rain coat thing again I have decided I really need a nice spring jacket. Not something designed for rain but just a cover up for the mornings when it isn't so warm.

The constraints are

  • No more than about £50
  • No black (too fair and don't like it especially in summer)
  • I am a pear-shaped size 18/20 so has to be a decent length and I have inherited the bat wing gene (yes it does exist)and often find sleeves are tight when nothing else is
  • No 3/4 length sleeves - I just don't get those on coats, well on anything really but especially coats.

why long with pear shape? short and fitted would be more flattering, think nigella.

how about a cord jacket? or i have read that denim jackets are back. although it depends where you live, it might look as though you hadn't stopped waering them.

I like cord jackets. Good idea although I quite often wear cord trousers so might it be too much?

Not sure about denim ones though. I think I might look like I haven't stopped wearing them. (I forgot to say I am old - 42)

Why longer - well I don't want my muffin top on view to the world if I have to lift my arms up and I would like to cover up whatever I am wearing so coordination isn't a problem. I don't want t-shirts sticking out the bottom!

Is a nipped in waistline not appropriate?

i got a really nice cord jacket from wrap (am also a bit old) but unfortunately it sticks out a bit at the back and makes me look like a chicken.

am rummaging round dorothy perkins for you.

tres vile

Niecie · 21/04/2009 10:45

Oui, tres vile

Not exactly what I had in mind.

I think I saw some nice cord ones in Wrap last season. A bit of a worry about the chicken look though. My bum looks big enough without enhancements!

I was looking for one of these too.

But I would not want cord or denim.
And 3/4 length sleeves are ok!! Totally different to you. lol
I have a black one but want a summery looking one. There is a def lack of them this year.

By coincidence the new Wrap catalogue just arrived in the post but the jackets don't stand out. Not that it is anywhere near my price range either.

Lots of linen/cotton coats which look like the ironing pile after 5 minutes like this

This is OK except it isn't long enough, cheap enough and it has the 3/4 sleeves.

I like no2 except for the price. And I fancy green I think.
