When you first started going to the gym, how long before you noticed some improvement in body shape?

I've never got as far as the 'improvement in body shape' bit but my bank balance slims down beautifully and it's soooooo quick!

i lost a stone in the first month and have put on 5lbs of it in last 3 weeks

FrannyandZooey · 17/04/2009 20:21

very quickly
3 times a week i would think by end of month you would be feeling pleased
does your gym offer weighing and measuring? if not do it yourself at home and review after a month

not gym, but a new regime, been running and doing yoga for past couple of months, but only the last month or so to any intensity (average 3-4 hrs a week). haven't lost any significant weight over that time, but noticing a definite change in body shape (as in "eep! my bum's gone flat" plus a flatter belly to compensate [phew]).

whoingodsnameami what kind of work outs are you aiming to do? Think it's good to have a mix of cardio and weights. If you're doing 3 times a week you should notice some improvement within a few weeks.

For me it's a bodypump (fab for toning especially arms and legs) and a spin class (45 mins of pure hell but burns shed loads of calories) that are my main gym sessions which I feel make the difference ( I also do other running/cycling)

Oooh I have no idea, was going to ask the instructer for advice, it is my middle section that I need the most work on.

I do pilates and BodyBalance. Pilates is for the core muscle groups and is very good. Bodybalance is a mix of tai chai, yoga and pilates (but it picks all the hardest positions etc) but it works all muscle groups. I have defined arms, toned legs, arse and back, and now have a defined waist and flat tummy.

I'd say the noticable difference when I started pilates once a week was about 6 weeks after. And with bodybalance the same. I have been doing each class once a week for just shy of a year, but it is amazing the difference in my body shape now. Go for it!

I've been doing sport since the age of 13 (running, steps, aerobics etc...) but the only thing that really improved my body in a matter of days was........................ YOGA.
If done properly Yoga is a sure way to a lean really muscly body, and a "zen" mind!
Give it a go!!
