frigging awesome!

I used a method from this thread and then something similar to trim the back.
I did have same length below shoulder hair and now it is all layered and light and pretty.
And it took 10 minutes in the kitchen with a brush, hairband and some scissors!

Oh I would love to try this but I have shorter hair - sort of chin length bob, not long enough for a pony tail. Reckon I could still cut my own? Paid 30 quid recently for a very iffy cut and T&G and thinking I could not do worse!

VictorianSqualor · 18/04/2009 22:39

I dried mine roughly with the hairdryer and then lightly straightened bits afterwards.

Looks like this now. (Excuse pic have been to a wedding reception and drank mucho wine, lol.

misdee · 18/04/2009 22:40

VS that looks fab!!

dd3 asked me when i was dyeing my hair pink again

girlandboy · 18/04/2009 23:03

Tempted, very tempted.

But I've got VERY thick hair and lots of it. And it's nearly waist length and wavy.

Hmmm, what to do, what to do?

hunkermunker · 18/04/2009 23:24

I used to cut my hair like this when I was at university. You may call it "the Hunker cut", if you like

Fab, isn't it? I remember doing it one night in halls and freaking out loads of the other girls, who squeaked incoherently at me about not cutting your own hair.

Works a treat though, eh? You all look fab!

MammaPiggy · 19/04/2009 09:30

hey victoriansqualor yours looks brilliant really professional!

Amapoleon - i dont think it matters if your dd slready has a fringe it will just blend in with the rest of the layers i think

gizmo - i dont know about really really long hair like that but mine is quite long and i just put the whole lot into the ponytail and then just cut however much i want off, it shouldnt matter really if your hair is longer because you will still get the same layered effect its just the layers will be longer so it will be less dramatic iyswim

wow well done everyone!

MammaPiggy · 19/04/2009 09:34

sparkyfartdust - i last went to the hairdressers in 2006!!!

slightlymadstirrup - i think jackbauer got hers shorter and more layered at the back by doing another ponytail at the back and then doing a similar thing with that.

i dont know why it would be stepped rather than feathery though? do you like it?

SammyK · 19/04/2009 09:41

Ooh the hair in the vid looks surprisingly nice, would never think to put my hair into a ponytail to cut it!

I usually cut my own hair, or go to local college where it's £5 for a trim and blow dry. May have to try this style tho, very nice and fancy some layers and fringy bits.

SlightlyMadStirrup · 19/04/2009 10:03

when I woke up this morning it looked a bit like this (except no fringe and not that colour}

Then I brushed it and it went like this - well not quite

When I have straighened it I hope it will be more like this

I am not doing reall photo's of me cos a) I am shy and b) I have hideous conjunctivitis and will probably scare you all let alone the little children sat on your laps.

MammaPiggy · 19/04/2009 10:10

slightlymad - you will just have to not brush it then! the one where you woke up this morning looks nice!

Saltire · 19/04/2009 10:14

Mine looks far better this morning. I normally wash mine in teh shower every day, but did it last nihgt. The layer seem to sit more round my face at the front, and I still ahve length! How does everyone elses look this morning?

SlightlyMadStirrup · 19/04/2009 10:14

It was.

I guess I just need to know what products to use to keep the defined waves

cheesesarnie · 19/04/2009 10:32

god your all brave.i know hairdressers can cost a lot but its my little treat-i do dye it at home.i like my hair as it is and wouldnt trust myself to start getting scissor happy

giraffesCantRunA10k · 19/04/2009 10:45

Just done mine - I didnt take too much off, but its now shorter at front and you can see the layers, it does look nice, the photo doesnt show how nicely its sitting - love it!!! Took me all of 5 minutes!!!! I would have taken more off but wanted it long enough at front to get in a pony tail easily. Just uploading pics

giraffesCantRunA10k · 19/04/2009 10:51

pics on profile. ty MN for saving me £40!!!

TheDevilEatsNestle · 19/04/2009 10:54

Oh it looks fab giraffes, you are very preddy.

Your profile pictures made me laugh too, it tells a little of your mumsnet history.

SlightlyMadStirrup · 19/04/2009 12:14

Any DIY home dying tips? Can I do it with a used teabag?

My hair could do with some (cheap) colour!

nappyaddict · 19/04/2009 12:44

Do none of your local hairdressers or colleges do model days? That's how I get mine done. It's £15 for a cut and £20 for cut and colour.

cluelessnchaos · 19/04/2009 12:51

Its not that I cant afford it nappyaddict, more that its a bit of a laugh.

misdee · 19/04/2009 12:54

its finding time as well to go to the hairdressers

nappyaddict · 19/04/2009 12:56

that is true. sometimes when i haven't got time i get a mobile one to come to the house. if it's just for a cut cos that still only costs £15 but if it's for cut and colour she charges £35 and i can't justify spending the extra!

MammaPiggy · 19/04/2009 12:57

yes i agree misdee its finding the time, its such a hassle going to the hairdressers

misdee · 19/04/2009 12:58

i also have a bit of a phobia with hairdressers. last cut was in 07.

nappyaddict · 19/04/2009 13:00

i know what you mean. there's only 2 girls i will allow to cut my hair cos they know exactly how i like it!

nappyaddict · 19/04/2009 13:01

It also helps when trying someone new if you tell them you've had a bad experience and it's put you off a bit. They ask you every 3 minutes if it's ok to cut this much off lol. slightly annoying but least you get it how you want.
