Somewhere nice for lunch and a bit of shopping in London

Having a child-free day (hurrah !!) day and meeting a friend for lunch and maybe a bit of shopping. I am a Londoner (for the last few years) so should know where to go, but I don't get out much...

Can you suggest a nice "ladies who lunch" place? Maybe somewhere in Marylebone or Mayfair?

st christopher's place

I have not been, I went to London for a work meeting with time to spare beforehand for shopping and lunch, and that was where I planned to go. Train was delayed so I sat in Peterborough for several hours instead

It looks lovely though.

St Christopher's Place and Marylebone High Street are great for shopping and lunching. There's a Carluccio's in St Christopher's Place as well as a lot of small independent restaurants. Or you could pop into the Wallace Collection which has a lovely cafe.

If you fancy something posher a lot of good restaurants are doing really cheap lunch deals at the moment - Tom Aikens (Chelsea) does a three course set lunch for £29, Le Gavroche (Mayfair) does one for £40, etc

Have a look here for some other good options.

Thanks Dinosaur - that's a good suggestion, but as it's not often I am without 3 year old DD, I was after something a bit more "posh"... (I want to pretend I am hip and stylish, at least for a day... )

My wife likes to go to Nicole's in the basement of the Nicole Fahri shop on Bond St when she does a London shopping day.

The Bar is for light meals (but you cannot book just have to walk in) and the restaurant (you can book) is a bit heavier menu but very much still for Ladies Who Lunch.

Sip a glass of Champagne in Claridges Bar - only £14 a pop. Great for people watching!

That was quick ! Thanks for all the fab suggestions !

If you want chilled out, I'd recommend El Pirata in Mayfair (Shepherd Market) or Maze in Grovenor Sq. Definitely Claridges if you really want to treat yourself. Enjoy.

Feelingoptimistic · 15/04/2009 21:27

Thanks HarryB. I made a reservation at Tom Aikens (hope it's ok...) before seeing your post but just looked at El Pirata and that looks fab, so will have to try it next time !

I see you have it sorted already but for future reference: Nobu Berkeley is fab and they have a no-book policy so you in theory you can walk in and get a table any time.
