There were far too many white linen trousers out today
if your arse is saggly then really they dont help = material not resistant enough.
linen generally is shit, cheap linen even worse.

White jeans i woudl say May onwards, althouugh i note that the exhasted sloaney teens wear them all year around.

flip flops in winter are confined to swimming pools.

YOu may wear them whenever post April.
Toes must be done and nails short.

they haev lovely ones in shite stuff atm (arf)

compo · 13/04/2009 15:39

a) and b) can only be worn in a very hot June/ July/August and if you are size 12 and under
c) flip flops from May onwards if it's not raining

AbleSister · 13/04/2009 15:43

I've got flipflops on today !

TrillianEAstraEgg · 13/04/2009 16:02

White jeans? Eurgh.

White linen trousers - make sure you check if your knickers are visible!

howtotellmum · 13/04/2009 17:47

Nothing worse than white linen trousers with VPL or thongs showing. White knickers show- wear nude ones.

I think very few people can get away with white trousers and especially linen- too often they are worn by older women who are trying to look young!

If you are uder 45, wear them when it's a lovely warm day, if you are over 45 ( like me) don't wear them ever.

Flip flops are fine when it's warm enough and you won't get chillblains.

KingRolo · 13/04/2009 17:59

a and b = never.
c = all year round in the house, from june outdoors.

AbleSister · 13/04/2009 18:02

oh you lot wiht fat old muntery legs

white jeans rocketh

JohnnyTwoHats · 13/04/2009 18:06

Never to the first two. Flip-flops at your discretion (but I may laugh at you if you wear them when it is cold, like the rugby wife I saw wearing flip-flops on a cold March day)

TrillianEAstraEgg · 13/04/2009 19:06

But nude knickers are ugly howtotell.

I think VPL is technically the term for when the shape of knickers can be seen through tight material (because you can see the 'line' where the end), not when you can actually just see knickers because your trousers are transparent.

JeanPoole · 13/04/2009 19:10

white jean, euuurrgghh

flip flops, any time the weather nice, as long as toil nails are painted.

fin42 · 13/04/2009 19:33

Same as the white shoes rule, no month with an 'R' in it.

EachPeachPearMum · 13/04/2009 19:37

Nappy- you are young and beautiful.... wear what you like!

KaiserSosay · 13/04/2009 19:38

ah that photo of nappy is at LEAST 10 years old.

TheProvincialLady · 13/04/2009 19:42

a) and b) only when you are Liz Hurley (pray it never happens to you) and c) Only when it is too hot to wear proper sandals and even then only if your feet are fit to be seen. IMO.

paolosgirl · 13/04/2009 19:44

Cast ne'er a clout til May is out - as everyone knows. Which means, keep your thermals on until June, and then you can wear what you like

White jeans are not eurgh - I have a pair of white skinnies which I wear with flip flops and a long floaty top. I look good, if I do say so myself!

TrillianEAstraEgg · 13/04/2009 19:45

Show us a picture if you look so good!

KaiserSosay · 13/04/2009 19:45

oi trill.
check your inbox lady.

paolosgirl · 13/04/2009 19:47

Nope - you'll have to take my word for it! I'm 5' 1" and 8 stone, so it's probably safe

HolyGuacamole · 13/04/2009 20:19

Am I the only one who thinks that white short style or boy pant style pants are ok under white linen trousers? They hide the bum cheeks

howtotellmum · 13/04/2009 20:20

True- VPL is when you can see the outline of knickers, but I stretched the point here, to include see-thru white trousers. I have seen some women who seem to want everyone to know they are wwearing black, blue, pink knickers under white trousers.

The only colour that doesn't showis nude or flesh colour knickers- unless your white trousers are lined.

Same as with a white top- white bras show through, flesh ones don't.

Why are nude or flesh coloured knickers ugly?

Clary · 13/04/2009 20:30

"ne'er cast a clout till may is out" refers to the May flower ie hawthorn.

Thus it is related to the weather rather than the month (tho it is usually not out till May, hence the, errm name!)

Mind you we have cast clouts hither and yon this week (T-shirts to the park today) and only the leaves, not the flowers of the may are out, oh dear.

To answer OP, avoid white trews myself but then I am old and fat.

flip flops fine in warm weather (this pm for eg).

TrillianEAstraEgg · 13/04/2009 20:34

I think white shorts-type knickers might be okay. We can still see them, but as long as you don't mind...

I prefer to stick to opaque trousers aas much as possible.

paolosgirl · 13/04/2009 20:49

Some debate about the meaning of May, Clary - see here

Either way - don't take your vest off til May seems to be the advice!
