Have a posh golden wedding dinner to attend for DH's parents in June. Went to Monsoon and have purchased this dress with the matching shrug.

I am not the most stylish of dressers usually and generally end up in something black or chocolate brown!

I have no idea about shoes, jewellery or a bag.... HELP!!!

Thanks!

Do you want to go for old-fashioned classy elegance, or trendy?

For old fashioned classy elegance:
Pearl cuff bracelet
Pearl earrings
Cream court shoes

For trendy:
Bright pink beaded necklace
Bright pink beaded bracelet
Pink shoes

mrspink27 · 12/04/2009 20:17

Wow - never would have thought of pink... any suggestions/ links gratefully received!

I would say BIG silver, big silver bangles,

like this

this

with a few like this

last bangles, lol

small earrings though,

like these

Disenchantegg3 · 12/04/2009 20:29

necklace to match earings

DSM · 12/04/2009 20:31

shoe option 1
shoe option 2

Bracelet, maybe something like this
Or something like this

Would also maybe suggest this for around the plain green bit in the dress.

What are your thoughts thus far?

DSM · 12/04/2009 20:32

TBH, I think silver with that colour of green will look really washed out.

I also think that wearing random silver jewellery to a wedding looks very like 'its all I had'.

DSM · 12/04/2009 20:33

Sorry - shoe option 1 won't link to the actual page.

jambutty · 12/04/2009 20:40

Agree that silver will look not quite right. Fuschia, although fab, may also look a bit partyish for a posh do - what about picking out the ivory/cream in the dress? Will hunt.

mrsmaidamess · 12/04/2009 20:41

I would wear silver shoes at the very least. And some long silvery earrings. It wouldn't look like 'it's all you had' if they were fancy enough.

Disenchantegg3 · 12/04/2009 20:41

Thats OK if its your opinion, i just wouldn't put hot pink and that green together unless I were under or on something, lol.

I just thought silver was a bit more classy for a 'posh' wedding anniversary dinner

DSM · 12/04/2009 20:42

Yes, I did suggest pearls but the OP said she liked the idea of pink.

It depends on the wedding, of course, but I don't think you necessarily have to be overly formal. I certainly don't change my style for a wedding.

The dress is classy and wedding appropriate. Which means you can get away with more funky accessories.

Disenchantegg3 · 12/04/2009 20:42

oops should have read 'under 16'

mrsmaidamess · 12/04/2009 20:43

how fab would these look??

DSM · 12/04/2009 20:46

Fuschia and lime green actually go very well together, according to stylists colour wheels

Depends if you are a trendy person or not though. if you are not, you would probably feel a little self conscious, and would be better being a little understated. If you think you would, then maybe go for the plainer and less 'stand out' silvery look.

Maidamess - those orange shoes are lovely, would look great.

mrspink27 · 12/04/2009 20:48

Thanks - this is definitely food for thought... I had originally thought of a strappy sandal... a bit like
this or maybe this

both totally not what I would usually go for and therefore feel a bit like I am tempted by the sparkles! Which is why I hadnt considered the pink or orange options!

What do you think?

mrsmaidamess · 12/04/2009 20:49

See, I'm having second thoughts about the orange ones now, although I lurrrrve them, as the dress is quite 'minty' in colour.

jambutty · 12/04/2009 20:50

Ah cross post. If you go for gold/bling sandals then gold or cream jewellery would look better - I think. Orange could be good too though!

jambutty · 12/04/2009 20:52

mermaid necklace?

mrspink27 · 12/04/2009 20:53

The dress is very apple green in real life... not minty

mrsmaidamess · 12/04/2009 20:54

With a strapless dress I think a necklace is too much. I think very long, possibly chandelier earrings look better. Also the dress is quite busy so keep it simple.

DSM · 12/04/2009 20:55

I really don't like strappy sandals, I never think they look nice. Cheap looking, IMO.

Poppity · 12/04/2009 21:17

Love the idea of pink, maybe not fushia quite, depends on how bright the dress is. It looks softish, so I would go for a softish pink.

Are you tanned though? If so, I think the pearl/silver of this would look gorgeous on a tanned decolletage
this

Am off to look for more now.

Love the dress by the way

Which green shrug, the one with diamante buttons?

Poppity · 12/04/2009 21:18

Have to agree about the sandals though, don't like them, sorry, unhelpful I know.

madlentileater · 12/04/2009 21:20

dd2 suggests
jade bangles and silver jewellry
small white satin bag, poss beaded
shoes either satin white or jade green
white tights (not with white shoes obv)
or no tights
