Wedding outfit for elderly relative

I have volunteered to help an elderly reltive find an outfit for a summer family wedding. She is simply too old to drag around the shops but she wants to look smart and doesn't want to let the side down.

I am thinking of getting her a longish coat/jacket to wear over trousers and a top/blouse. And then accessorize from there.

She isn't wheelchair bound of anything but she will probably spend much of the day sitting down.

She is 5' 11' tall (tall for an over 80s lady) and very broad shouldered.... I'd guess she would need a size 18 for the jacket/coat thing but prob a 16 for the trousers.

I'd be very grateful if any of you had any good ideas.

this is very nice

this jacket is very nice with match trousers at bottom

this navy suit could be lovely with a white blouse

Disenchantegg3 · 08/04/2009 16:19

this could work perfectly :)

Disenchantedegg - thank you. Aren't you good at this? Trouble is she won't want to wear a skirt as she has slightly puffy ankles.

I was thinking of something like this with, cream trouser, cream pashmina, cream hat and shoes. Or perhaps even navy accessories.

that coat is lovely ...

with chocolate?

Swedes · 08/04/2009 17:57

Yes chocolate is a lovely idea. Interestingly, I was looking at a lovely chocolate coloured hat in M&S yesterday - with the grey coat in mind. It's here

that is a really sweet hat.

Chocolate and cream are a fab combo for a summer wedding.

I bought the M&S linen coat, a cream organza hat, cream pashmina and a cream and grey spotty blouse (for under the coat). And she absolutely loved it ... all of it. Thrilled not to have to go shopping. All we have to look for now are some cream trousers and we are going to try and borrow a cream bag.

Hoorah.
