Which primer is best?

I want to buy a makeup primer, I have heard that Smashbox and Laura Mercier are the best?

Which is best for me, I can't really try either because nowhere where I live stocks them.

I am 24, good skin (spotty chin though ) and I use Max Factor foundation.

smashbox you can get on ebay.

avon do face perfecter? i think that is what it's called. i think that is just as good as the smashbox stuff

Laura Mercier primer v good! That's what I use.
I think Clarin's Beauty Flash Balm also works well as a primer.

Benefit's some kind a gorgeous is brilliant, but doesn't last long.

There's a MNer called Watts who is a make-up artist and she always recommends smashbox primer (the clear one.)

I was thinking QVC. No Mac here either.

I think the makeuplady for my wedding used the Clarins stuff but it felt heavy?

I have been using Olay radiance moisturiser and its made a huge difference to how my makeup looks (and lasts!) so fancy something posher...

Maybe it will come down to price? Maybe my DH could buy it for me as well as chocolate for Easter?!

so what exactly does a primer do?
I have avon magic X, is it the same sort of thing, just gives your skin a glow?
