What is so special about Havaianas flip-flops? Please explain.

They're just rubber flip-flops aren't they? I like rubber flip-flops. I don't see how these particular rubber flip-flops are more special than the $2 supermarket rubber flip-flops though.

with you on this one ... a friend of mine only refers to her daughters flip-flops as Haviana's rather than say flip-flops and her son's Crocs as Crocs ... I always refer to my son's shoe's as shoe's ... don't see the need to mention the brand .. although of course they are a super-cool brand so they speak for themselves

moondog · 04/04/2009 17:42

Neither do I.

Vamonos · 04/04/2009 17:46

No, they always seem a bit thin and cheap-looking to me... maybe that's their appeal

Lawks · 04/04/2009 17:55

"Darling, put your Havaianas on. We're going out!"

So it's just a brand name thing for gullible fashionistas then.

Although, I do refer to dd's crocs as crocs. They're different to her pumps, her flip-flops or her wellies.

I've just bought a pair - someone on here linked to cheapy ones on Amazon a couple of weeks ago - they were £9 including p&p

They are much better than the crappy flip flops I've got - the soles are really squidgy, a bit like memory foam and as a result they are super comfy.

Flamesparrow · 04/04/2009 18:05

Much better quality and last a hell of a lot longer judging by my mate's.

DrNortherner · 04/04/2009 18:07

Much more comfortable too - it's like wearing slippers. Mine have lasted years.....

Vamonos · 04/04/2009 18:34

OH. Am attracted by the comfiness factor, don't get me wrong I LOVE flip-flops and I have a memory-foam pillow, so am sold on that I just like a substantial sole, can't bear nasty thin little things. Maybe I will try some on.

Ivykaty44 · 04/04/2009 18:51

They go flop flip - so easier to call them by there brand name

EasterBunnysWizzskas · 04/04/2009 20:51

I find Havaianas really last without getting thin on the sole. My SIL is Brazilian and gets me them every year, they cost about £2 in Rio. I must have about 7 pairs, I live in them in the summer. Have climbed a mountain in them in Italy before.

Stilla · 05/04/2009 01:36

Its to do with the rubber they are made of- something about it being of tyre quality.

Have had mine for 4 yrs now (have 4 pairs) and they dont wear down . Shockingly expensive in this country - bought mine in Kos for 10euro (when a euro was about 7pound)

LouIsTheEasterBilby · 06/04/2009 09:54

I have worn mine for 3 years now and they have not worn down at the heels. They might be expensive but they come in such pretty colours.

mrsmaidamess · 06/04/2009 09:56

Some supermodel wore them. Giselle Gazelle or something. Then everyone had to have them.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 06/04/2009 10:03

I'm not so keen on them, but that's because I don't like bits of rubber between my toes. I have Accessorize flip-flops that have a lovely velvety piece of material as the strap. That said, mine cost £8 and have quite thin soles, so Havaianas are a bargain by comparison.

Bettymum · 06/04/2009 11:44

I have a Brazilian SIL too and she brought some back, they are suuuper super comfy. I normally don't wear flipflops as the rubbery bit irritates between my toes but somehow the Havaianas don't do that .

meep · 06/04/2009 11:50

very comfy and no blisters - sold!

bleh · 06/04/2009 11:51

They are the best. I have worn mine almost every single day for three years, and they're still going. Other flip flops either die early on, or else they rub or pinch or shred your feet to pieces (I had a very bad experience with a pair from BHS)

bleh · 06/04/2009 11:52

I'll qualify that as: almost every single day in summer. Not winter. they're not that amazing.

lilacclaire · 06/04/2009 11:53

there is a sale for them here its the only sale i've seen that the prices go up!

Stilla · 06/04/2009 12:31

Go up ??????
were 19-95 NOW 14-95
