I used to have Samantha Janus type hair, long blonde, shiny and really nice. Then with feeling crap and post natal depression I had it dyed mid brown, and it now has absolutely no shine at all, and looks like a fancy dress wig!!

My hairdresser now says there's no way I can go back to being blonde as the condition of my hair is now so bad, please can somebody give me some advice? I feel like bubbling when I look in the mirror ....

can i just ask was your hair coloured before if it was the brown will fade and wash out as the hair is porous and lets go of the colour, i would have some hilites to break up the flat colour and keep conditioning ie intensive leave conditioner on with hot towel,if you are desperate head and shoulders shampoo is a colour stripper but it will dry your hair further.

My hair was in really bad condiyion when it was longer, but I was able to make a big difference by conditioning it. Go to boots and buy a few of the small tubes of Clarol nice & easy conditoner (it's the same as in the box of hair colour and it's really good). Put loads on your hair, then pop on a plastic shower cap and wrap your head in a warm towel. Leave it on for an hour or more. If you do this every few days for a couple of weeks your hair will feel much better.

Once it's inbetter condition you'll be able to go lighter.

Lancarra1, yes it used to be dyed blonde from my natural light brown but getting my roots and then 1/2 head hi lights on top was costing too much. I thought going darker would be cheap (and hairdresser assured me hair would look lush) but now I spend a fortune on shine spray!! I have tried H&S and it did take some of the colour out but you are totally right, I think it dried it out!

Macherie - Excellent - thank you very very much, I will try that nice and easy and will get some tomorrow!!!
