My efforts never seem to be as good - am I doing it wrong? or do salons have stronger stuff?

What colour are you using? I think my sil mentioned something about mixing blue and black to get longer lasting or darker colour [vague]

You get professional blue/black on ebay. Blue/black is a great colour as it gives a lovely sheen but it's not blue if you know what I mean and has a bit more depth than just plain black.

I don't think you can do it as well at home - in the salon they can get right down to the roots (which is really important for me as my lashes are so blonde!)

When I tried to do mine myself I ended up with badger lashes.

Buy Permalash dye and activator stuff off the internet (I'm blonde blue eyes and always buy blue-black). Use a washed mascara want (I use one of the new ones that are very plastic and bendy rather than bristly), and apply like mascara, getting the brush right down to the root and wiggling it outwards IYSWIM.
