I thought the whole point of it was to turn up dressed as daftly as possible. Isn't it? (seriously)

NorbertDentressangle · 03/04/2009 13:31

My oh my.

I had no idea the chintz sofa look had made such a comeback

Pinkjenny · 03/04/2009 13:32

I wondered how long it would be before the C word was used.

NorbertDentressangle · 03/04/2009 13:33

what...Chintz..???

Pinkjenny · 03/04/2009 13:36

I quite like chintz actually. Not necessarily around my body, though. Those poor girls will just be mortified. Not exactly inspired reporting, I remember almost exactly the same article last year. It is not restricted to Liverpool, or the North. To suggest that it is, is absurd. Are people like Chantelle Houghton and Jodie Marsh Northerners? Erm, no.

Iklboo · 03/04/2009 13:36

It's not MY bloody regional costume

It's the 40s newsreel style reportage that make me larf

'Fake tan and fascinators were the order of the day as the Grand National Festival kicked off at Aintree yesterday'.

Can't you just hear that Pathe announcer voice?

southeastastra · 03/04/2009 13:39

nah they're essex girls jenny, essex is twinned with liverpool style wise

I am definitely going next year (I say this every year) and I will make it my Mumsnet Mission to get photographed for the Daily Mail.

HolidaysQueen · 03/04/2009 13:41

Pisses me off because they don't say this about Ascot even though there are plenty of people looking terrible there. Pure north/south snobbery.

The thing is, they have all dressed up and made an effort even if it may not be what we (DM/the great MN style police) consider to be stylish. They all look a damn sight more jolly and fun-loving than that terrible DM Liz Jones woman, so quite frankly I'm on their side

Iklboo · 03/04/2009 13:43

Fascinators are those kind of half hat thingies with big feathers n stuff on aren't they?

Pinkjenny · 03/04/2009 13:45

Suwoo tried one on in John Lewis in aluminous pink that was bigger than her head. Maybe that's where they got them from.

She didn't buy it, I hasten to add. I reckon she wanted to, though.

suwoo · 03/04/2009 14:08

Oi you, I would never wear it! I am manc not a scouser

Pinkjenny · 03/04/2009 14:09

I thought you were welsh! Mongrel.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 03/04/2009 14:11

there is a great irony here, ya know...normally mn'ers seem to seek distance from the dm and their opinion....so, by agreeing with the article is putting yerself on teh side of dm...usrely no respecting mumsnetter would do that ....just couldn't resist...

ABetaDad · 03/04/2009 14:13

Why are women so horrid about what other women wear, their size, etc.

I have honestly never heard a bloke say anthing like that about another bloke in my whole life.

I thought you were all so supportive of each other. Its like girls in the playground bullying other girls about being fat and not being cool, etc.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 03/04/2009 14:16

fwiw....I don't think bad dress sense is at all determined by north/south division....some people know how to dress, others don't (however, I am german, that might explain that )

dearprudence · 03/04/2009 14:17

Now I was looking for pics of bad Ascot fashion, but I found this!

Unfortunately this one was from Aintree too, but I had to share it.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 03/04/2009 14:19

well...and this one is so much better as dress sense goes....
hehe prudence...had the same idea...

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 03/04/2009 14:22

oh and you gotta love the hats

springdaffs · 03/04/2009 16:06

Nasty and snobbish article- they look like they are having a great time. Normal people on a day out - they don't deserved to be mocked in that nasty rag.

BouncingTurtle · 03/04/2009 16:22

FFS this is why I don't read the Daily Fascist. What a nasty, misogynist piece of tripe
I'm in complete agreement with Dawn Lindley's comment.
'I can not understand your attack. These women have most likely been planning their outfits for months and as long as they think they look good and are having a good time what has it got to do with anyone else.'
Hear, hear!

SoupDreggon · 03/04/2009 16:27

OMG!

No, the girls do not look fab. They look appalling. They may well be having fun but they are dressed dreadfully.

Pinkjenny · 03/04/2009 16:28

Well in that case I demand they get themselves home and put on a pair of Boden chinos then!

southeastastra · 03/04/2009 16:30

they will all be rolling on the floor drunk too. british racing dontcha love it.

(Is anyone doing a sweepstake this year)
