So, WTF are you supposed to wear when you are in your 40's?

I'm 44 this year with a 5 yo DS. Everyone thinks I am in my 30's which is flattering. However I am a size 16 and just don't know what to wear - I am too old/fat for Top Shop, River Isalnd, etc but too young for Per Una, Wallis.
I generally dress smart-casual with a slight bo-ho twist and quite colourful. I have a few dresses from Wallis, but sometimes when I wear them I feel so middle aged. Other than that I tend to buy bits from H&M that suits my style.
But I don't really know what my style is anymore. I kind of like what that fat dark haired lesbian woman who wears 50's clothes wears (she has been on Loose Women before), and Jenny Eclair's look.

Fat Face have some nice hippychick stuff in which is lovely. Nice dangling top to cover the bits you want covered with a well fitting pair of jeans and boots?

Or how about nice linen shirts with vesty tops showing underneath (cool colours, White Stuff do some really nice ones) with jeans?

Monsoon? White Stuff?

My DSis is a size 16/18 always looks fab and buys lots in River Island (I was surprised. I thought it was for size zeros lol).

I can't help with where you should shop (I always ask my DSis and she's brilliant), but I will say continue to shop around. You'll find great things in unexpected places.

Dress to please yourself
