I'm going to one tomorrow and have no idea what non-sleb folk wear to such gigs.

Oooh what you going to see?

It is the proper premiere in leicester square red carpet jobby?

MrsMerryHenry · 31/03/2009 21:32

God I don't know, I think so - it's Armando Ianucci's In The Loop - it's his feature-length spin-off of The Thick of It.

Is it a proper slebby one or a "special preview/screening"?

MrsMerryHenry · 31/03/2009 21:33

I should probably wear heels. I can't walk in heels. Gaaaahh!!

I think it may be the proper slebby one, my friend who got the tickets said something about Armando being there but I don't know if that was a joke.

Oh, it's the gala premier - that's the slebby one, right?

Oh I can't wait to see that film!

I've been to a premiere where I went straight from work and a couple where I got properly dressed up (by which I mean the most fashionable outfit I owned). Don't think long frocks, Oscars style that would be OTT.

Remember this: no one will be looking at you (I mean that in the nicest possible way!) but it's still fun to walk on a red carpet.

squeaver · 31/03/2009 21:39

Yes that will be the slebby one

MrsMerryHenry · 31/03/2009 21:43

I am very glad to be reminded that no-one will be paying me any attention! Though if I am to walk on a red carpet, anonymous or not, I may resort to trainers for the sake of maintaining balance!

Just seen some clips from the film - it looks great!

Ballet pumps!

MrsMerryHenry · 31/03/2009 21:51

Good move - except that mine are really loose and are bound to slip off!

Actually I'm only kidding about the trainers thing; I lasted a whole day in my favourite (aka only) pair of heels at a wedding a few weeks ago. I reckon I could manage 5 minutes walking along the red carpet.

Ah you need these

Have fun!

naomi83 · 01/04/2009 13:37

black harem pants with a colourful top if you want to be very stylish, and heels, obviously

Iklboo · 01/04/2009 13:41

If I wore harem pants I'd look like MC Hammer (Thrower)

smallorange · 01/04/2009 13:47

There will be alot of casually dressed people as well so don't over-do it or you may feel a bit uncomfortable.

Have a good time with the free booze and food.

BitOfFunnyBunny · 01/04/2009 13:51

Perhaps something like this?

Anything you like. I used dress up for them but you get many people just wearing whatever they threw on that day. Have fun.

MrsMerryHenry · 02/04/2009 12:00

OMG if only I'd read this thread yesterday I'd have dusted off my Swan dress and MC Hammer pants! Oh, well, more's the pity.

Anyway I went half glam half not, and it turned out there wasn't a red carpet and it wasn't even in Leicester Square! It was in the much classier Mayfair, darrrrling and shocked though I was to not be hounded by the paps (don't they know who I am?) I really enjoyed it. No free booze or food, though - swanky location, unswanky budget. Film's great if anyone's interested!

Thanks for your tips, MNers!
