Longhaul flight and beach makeup

Does anyone have advice on how not to look horrendous on a long-haul flight?!

We're going to Jamaica at the end of May - I always look awful during/after flying and my SIL has decided she wants to go to Jamaica at the same time as us (but that's a different show..!). She'll be on the same flight as us and not only is she a slight PITA she's also stunning .

So, what tips do you have for some (cheapish) things I can get to beautify me for flight and beach?!

If anyone's still reading () and wants to see what I look like there's a picture of me on my profile, although it was taken a few minutes after giving birth so may not be completely representative!!

Drink plenty of water.

Minimal make up, bring a bit of balm / lip gloss, concealer and eye liner at a push and reapply as needed.

I'd stay clear of full make up at beach and on the flight. Nothing worse than seeing some poor girls make up melt in the heat / slide round her face after a nap.

Have your eye lashes tinted and a brows wax / threaded before hand.

Drink plenty of water?.never underestimate how fresh well hydrated skin can look.

And Enjoy, nothing is more attractive than a smile.

I would try not to worry
I bet she thinks she looks awful after a long flight too (most people do)

You're not really planning on wearing makeup in the beach are you??

Definitely get your eyelashes dyed before you go.

DunderMifflin · 30/03/2009 11:49

Yeah - you're right about not wearing make-up on the beach! I suppose I mean for hot weather really.

I like the idea of having my eyelashes tinted - does it really make a difference even if they're dark anyway?

Mine are dark, so have them tinted blue/black. It does make a difference. What about false lashes?? They can make a massive difference, adding body and length. You can have just a few added to your own lashes for a subtle, yet fuller eye look.

DunderMifflin · 30/03/2009 11:58

Would false lashes last?

Well with care they can last over 2 weeks. I've had about 20 days from mine.

DunderMifflin · 30/03/2009 12:34

Ooh - did you go to a beautician's or do them yourself?

How do you care for them (don't feed after midnight, etc )?!

For holiday/beach I wear bare escentuals mineral make up which is a lovely sheer powder foundation that has a bit of a sheen to it (therefore looking natural) and has a spf15 too.

  • waterproof mascara and an spf lip balm. I'm afraid I can't go anywhere without a little bit of slap!!
AllwaysDoingSomething · 30/03/2009 13:08

I do go to a salon and have lashes applied. Yup, no feeding after midnight, use oil free make up remover and take it easy when drying, cleaning my eyes. I don?t wear mascara on my lashes, no need really.

If that all sounds a bit too much, you could always get some practice in now with reusable lashes. MAC and Eyelure do some great one.

How about a little fake tan? A bit of that Johnsons stuff or St Tropez or a nice pre holiday glow?

dearprudence · 30/03/2009 13:18

Agree with those who recommend minimal make-up. On the flight, I'd use under-eye concealer, mascara, mineral powder, sheer lipstick/gloss, and some subtle eyebrow pencil - you'll look chic and groomed. Maybe a touch of blusher.

OK, that's quite a lot, I know. I've only really left out foundation and eye-shadow. But I'd apply with a light hand.

Thanks everyone - I'll go and do some research into brands, etc now!

Of course, if anyone else has other suggestions they'd be most welcome.
