I am apple shaped verging on top heavy triangle shape, about a 16
Big boobs, no waist

I want something that does not make me look pregnant so can't do empire line

Any suggestions?

I have visions of long limbed tanned bodies in skimpy colourful clothes when I think of LA, so being brightly coloured should fit in. Being apple-t shaped, you want to go for one colour or tones and slim skirt and a top that hits the hips. Most dresses at the moment have an empire bust level detailing and a full skirt, so I thought a clever shirt that looks like a jacket and skirt together could look great on you.

Thank you, I'll check it out instore

As an apple am not convinced about pencil skirts as I think they only emphasise small hips compared to top half.

What colours do you look good in Eldon?

fishie · 28/03/2009 21:54

are you sure about empire line? it is the only thing that suits me and i am similar shape to your description. not if sleeve finishes at waist though, that is terrible.

how are your legs? what is best bit? what time of year is wedding? have you time to shop in la? anthropologie!

I am pale with blonde hair
Teal blue suits me I think

Spotted this on the monsoon website Kensington Burnout Dress but might be too low at the front

sorry x posted

fishie - empire line definitely makes me look pregnant. Legs are fine, bust is fine but needs a bra

wedding is in May, can't rely on being able to shop while there far too stressful!

I agree fishie, a well cut empire line dress can work wonders.
SOmething like this might work and should disguse a wide waist

fishie · 28/03/2009 22:04

if monsoon dresses suit you then go shop away there, they are very good at making that shape and have lovely colours and fabrics.

keep receipt and go shopping in la if you can. santa monica...

Pannacotta · 28/03/2009 22:05

I am also pale skinned with blonde hair and find purple/plum very flattering.
I have a wide (non-existant?) waist at the mo and would deffo try the one I linked to plus a few others, will have another look and link again...

LynetteScavo · 28/03/2009 22:07

I don't think that dress would be too low 0 monsoon are usually quite good at getting their necklines just right (for me anyway!)

Funily enough the monsoon maxi dresses don't make you look pregnant, I've found.

I too am going to an LA wedding full of skinny beautiful people (I checked out the brides facebook page and became very afraid!)

Pannacotta · 28/03/2009 22:07

Both those ones panacotta linked to are lovely.

What time of day is the wedding?

Pannacotta · 29/03/2009 10:23

Saw this waist cincher linked to on another thread, might be worth a go?

EldonAve · 29/03/2009 10:30

Pannacotta - Thanks the first Monsoon dress might be worth a shot

LynetteScavo - monsoon ones may be okay at the front, tried this Hobbs one on last summer and they assume if you are wider you must be taller, it showed the whole bra!

Wedding is at 6pm outside

Pannacotta · 29/03/2009 11:00

Eldon I thought the Monsoon and Hobbs dresses you linked to were both pretty but maybe a bit old fashioned, esp for an LA wedding.
How about giving the waist cincher I linked to a try, so the empire line skims over flat tummmy/curvy wasit?

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2009 17:26

EldonAve - is it on June 13th by any chance?

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2009 17:50

Oh, I see you are going in May.

I'm wearingthis(When I tried it on it was very flattering) Its' an outdoor ranch wedding, and I'm going to play it down with wedge heels.

EldonAve · 29/03/2009 19:59

Pannacotta - I will look at the waist wotsit

LynetteScavo - that dress looks lovely

OP posts:
EldonAve · 31/03/2009 16:53

any thoughts on this from next?

OP posts:
samsonara · 31/03/2009 22:03

It's nice but I wouldn't wear it to LA, you'd be better of with something with a brigher colour or pattern

giantkatestacks · 31/03/2009 22:06

I would say that you should buy it over here whatever you wear - people were always asking me where my clothes were from in LA even though they were all Top Shop etc - I think they stand out more iyswim.

oh and get a pair of designer sunglasses to go with...

EldonAve · 01/04/2009 10:53

Thanks

Just reporting back, Monsoon had very little choice on Ox St

I bought this hobbs dress
This one was surprisingly nice cassia

Also liked this lkbennett turquoise but didn't buy as feeling a bit price conscious
