Is that the stuff you paint on like tippex? I saw it on This Morning last week and it wasn't a good look. Tippex probably better.

IamAlsoADreamer · 29/03/2009 09:26

thanks yeni perhaps won't bother then.
I did wonder how it would work.

There is an product called Waxaway for the ears that has carbamide peroxide in it in the same concentrations as professional tooth whiteners. Sounds horrible but it isn't, it tastes minty. It really works and is safe. I brush my teeth normally then put some on and swirl it for a couple of minutes a couple of times a week and it's great! Cheap too!

HOLY GUACOMOLE- REALLY????

nickschick · 29/03/2009 18:39

KEEP THIS AND ALL DRUGS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. IN CASE OF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION. SEEK PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE OR CONTACT A POISON CONTROL CENTER IMMEDIATELY.

GUACAMOLE you gotta stop doing it!!!

hobbgoblin · 29/03/2009 18:40

HG? Does it do anything odd to your tongue or gums or anything? How white do you go with this revolutionary technique of yours?

V. intrigued.

HolyGuacamole · 29/03/2009 19:07

I've been doing this for more than a year, have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I discovered it on a website called essentialdayspa, on the DIY forums.

OK, I am not a doctor, but waxaway is used for the ears so has to be safe for the throat, that's why when you put earwax in your ears, you can taste it. Weird I know. I don't swallow the waxaway, same as I wouldn't swallow toothpaste or conventional whiteners.

Have a look HERE

There's other threads about it on there too.

HolyGuacamole · 29/03/2009 19:10

Doesn't do anything odd to tongue or anything.

If you put some on a cotton bud and put it on the surface of one tooth and leave it for 5 minutes, you see a difference, the same difference as you'd see with any other carbamide peroxide containing whitener.

whoingodsnameami · 29/03/2009 19:11

Wow, I'm gonna try that, do you have to buy it over the counter?

hobbgoblin · 29/03/2009 19:13

Am reading the thread you linked to, thanks.

So, if one wanted to be very professional with this, one could buy trays for the teeth and fill with the wax remover stuff, right?

What's the optimal time for leaving on teeth?

HolyGuacamole · 29/03/2009 19:14

I order mine from the internet, I'll try find the link for you.

HolyGuacamole · 29/03/2009 19:16

HERE

HolyGuacamole · 29/03/2009 19:19

Hobbgoblin - when I first bought it, I bought one of those cheapo trays from ebay that you put in hot water and then mould it onto your teeth to get the shape then let it set. I did that everyday for about a week or so (kept it on while in the shower, so about 15 minutes) and that whitened them brilliantly.

Now I just do upkeep by brushing my teeth with it or swirling for a few minutes every few days.

whoingodsnameami · 29/03/2009 19:47

I have ordered some, thanks

hobbgoblin · 30/03/2009 00:07

Yeah thanks HG I will order some too! Thanks for thread OP!

IamAlsoADreamer · 30/03/2009 15:55

holygaucomole thanks I have just bought some hydrogen peroxide 6% from the chemists
you can use it as a mouthwash diluted[but i just brushed it on neat.
am I right in thinking that it's the % of hydrogen that 'whitens'
and also how white did your teeth go?

mrsmaidamess · 30/03/2009 16:15

I used those adhesive strips that wrap around your teeth. I found them pretty effective.

HolyGuacamole · 30/03/2009 17:08

I read a study that said the higher percentage, does not mean whiter teeth. At the end of the two week study both the lower and higher concentrations had exactly the same whitening effect. Although I think the lower concentration does not make teeth as sensitive as higher ones.

I haven't tried hydrogen peroxide but there are studies published on the net that compare the effectiveness with carbamide peroxide. I think that carbamide reacts with oxygen for longer than hydrogen. It is the reaction with oxygen that whitens.

I'm a smoker, coffee and red wine drinker and it made a huge difference to my teeth. Whiteners don't lighten porcelain veneers though, you have to apply it to the back of the tooth, it whitens the tooth underneath and makes the porcelain look lighter.

HTH

HolyGuacamole · 30/03/2009 17:14

Here you go

IamAlsoADreamer · 30/03/2009 17:28

thanks holyguacomole will have a read of that later
I did just use the mouthwash with a cotton bud and you could see the fizzing on the teeth and they do feel cleaner.
I will keep at it
