Dh and I have been invited to watch the Grand National by a customer of his.
I've never been to anything like this so would really appreciate some advice.

I am short and fat 5ft4" and size 16.

A dress, heels, hat if you like, abit like dressing as a wedding guest.

TheCrackFox · 26/03/2009 20:17

Sorry, couldn't resist.

someone will be along in a minute who knows about this king of thing. not me, I look like a tramp half the time.

nancy75 · 26/03/2009 20:17

wear wedge shoes so you dont sink in the mud

Ronaldinhio · 26/03/2009 20:19

bit of a gucci rip off?

milkysallgone · 26/03/2009 20:19

I went last year (paupers tattersall stand) I am very . It was bloody arctic and I was very at the amount of women standing on concrete terraces all day dressed up like it was ladies day at ascott!

I wore: black trs, top, raincoat and trainers! Practicality all the way I'm afraid.

Ronaldinhio · 26/03/2009 20:19

like what I did with the bit, bit?...snurk

Northernlurker · 26/03/2009 20:20

Something warm - Liverpool in April Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh!

from telly watching I think you want something smart, comfortable and warm but not overly posh or fancy. Good smart coat and great comfortable shoes or boots?

samsonara · 26/03/2009 20:25

Look these ladies are an inspiration (maybe not)here

BitOfFun · 26/03/2009 20:25

Will you be spending all day in a nice warm hospitality box getting pissed and watching the races on a big screen like I do though?

BitOfFun · 26/03/2009 20:29

Oh Lordy, she's meant to be coming to DP's private view on the Thursday night!

notsoteenagemum · 26/03/2009 20:30

Thanks!

TheCrackFox I nearly put PS am not a jockey on my post.

Ronaldinhio not sure dh would approve - or would he

Don't know where we will be I'm just assuming it's the posh bit as the customer is trying to impress. I'd be more comfortable in the paupers stand tbh.

Any more ideas?

How about a pantomime horse outfit?

369thegoosedrankwine · 26/03/2009 20:32

It depends on which stand you're in. If you've been invited as a client then it'll probably be a bit posh. Nice dress, heels and nice coat / wrap (for popping out to watch the races).

If in Tattersalls then I agree trousers / jeans, smartish coat and comfy shoes.

I go every year. This year I am in Queen Mother Stand and I plan to wear:

Cream fancy coat;
Debenhams red layered dress; and
Dune gold sandals.

My feet will probably be a bit cold but it is such a good day with a sense of occassion that I like to make a bit of effort.

BitOfFun · 26/03/2009 20:33

Yeah, can I be the arse?!

notsoteenagemum · 26/03/2009 20:37

samsonara knowing my luck I'll end up on there, I can see it now,
'chiffon and cellulite was the order of the day for this lard arse'

I wish my belly was as 'jellylike' as Alex Currans
