Is it true that some lipsticks contain lead, and lead has been linked to cancer?

A friend sent me a round robin-type email recently saying that several premium lipsticks contain lead, and 'lead is a chemical which causes cancer'.

The brands include Chanel, Clinique, Lancome and YSL (the latter allegedly containing the most lead).

It also says the more longer-lasting lipsticks contain the most lead.

Does anyone know if this is true? I was quite shocked by it, but then again I do lead a sheltered life!

there is probably more lead in your tap water ifyou life in a house over 100 years old.

i recommend stripping naked and living in a bubble (made of hypoallergenic plastic of course)

I think it was true that lipsticks used to contain lead but I doubt if they do now......perhaps I am wrong?? They don't use lead in paint anymore so I don't see why on earth they would use it in something that goes directly on your skin!

It is a hoax email.

Thanks, folks. I thought it sounded dodgy but decided to put it to the MN jury for a final verdict!
