How is it that I have lost 3 stone since Nov but...

have only gone down one dress size? I was a 20 at the peak of my weight gain. Then I came off the dreaded meds with that as a side effect and have been losing since. I am now 3 stone lighter, but am still just an 18! I know sizes are just numbers and I am not too hung up on it, just curious really! You'd think 3 stone would make more of a difference! Either way I feel much much better so thats the main thing. And I am still losing!

I lost 2 stone a few years ago and I went down about 1 1/2 - 2 dress sizes from a 14 to a 10/12. I'm surprised you've not gone down more sizes but I don't know how they work out the sizes of clothes. Main thing is you're losing and feeling better though.

hereidrawtheline · 26/03/2009 09:41

yes I know, I am really pleased about it! But I just wish I could be a 14... or a 12...Ah well will take time. Please though if someone else comes along who can explain dress sizes to me, do!

are you shopping in different places perhaps?

KingRolo · 26/03/2009 09:46

It depends where you have lost the weight I suppose. Dress sizes are measured round the bust, waist and hips but I guess your weight loss is all over? So you'll have slimmer arms, legs and face but that won't make a difference to your dress size if you see what I mean!

hereidrawtheline · 26/03/2009 09:50

I'm not really shopping in different places... in actual fact before I felt so shit about my body I wasnt shopping at all. I lived in one horrible pair of (baggy!) jeans from matalan, size 20. Even at matalan now I am an 18, but everywhere else I have started shopping is an 18 too.

I have lost all over, my face is a bit thinner, waist, tummy etc.

my hips have always been very big, I am naturally an hourglass with big boobs & hips. They havent shrunk too much.

Could the jeans you "lived in" have stretched or were made of a more stretchy denim than the ones you're trying on now? Also, if they were meant to be baggy then they would have been bigger than the actual number on the label anyway.

Don't be disheartened. A 2 and a half stone drop in weight is a fantastic achievement! If you are a classic hourglass shape then your hips, thighs and boobs will be the last places you'll lose your weight from which means that you won't see a dramatic drop in dress sizes for a while.

Why don't you measure yourself around your arms, boobs, waist, hips and thighs today and then again in a months time. Far more reliable way of seeing where the weight is coming off than what dress size fits.

Amandoh · 26/03/2009 10:41

Doh! Sorry... 3 stone! I don't know where I thought I saw 2 and a half.

hereidrawtheline · 26/03/2009 11:26

its ok Amandoh!

The jeans were truly hideous... When I tried them on in the fitting room they seemed to fit properly, then almost as soon as I got them home they had a saggy elephant bottom on them and they never got any better. But they werent meant to be baggy, they were supposed to be boot cut! Oh it felt sooooo good to throw them away I truly hated them.

I am drinking 2 litres of water day now too and its brilliant! Like the measurement idea - wish I had measurements from November!

Can I just ask about the water thing - don't you have to pee an awful lot? I try to up my water intake to try to stop eating snacks etc, but get so annoyed at constantly having to go the toilet that I revert back to my old ways. (This is one of the things I detested about being pregnant, drove me crazy)

hereidrawtheline · 26/03/2009 12:43

well so far today I have had 1 litre & done about 3 big wees. I'm not finding it annoying at all and it does make your body feel really good.

hmmm.. maybe I just need to train my bladder to hold more..I do seem to go at the first inkling of needing to...sorry..anyway...I don't remember how much I lost but I did find that I suddenly seemed to go from a 20 to 16, needing to buy new bras and trousers falling down was the key, so definitely hips and bust retained weight for longer than face/arms/lower legs etc.

Well done you! you must be chuffed anyway, it's a great (and difficult) thing to have done!

MrsMattie · 26/03/2009 13:50

I seem to drop a dress size with each stone I lose. I'm 5'11 and for me, 13 stone=size 16, 12 stone=14, 11 stone=12 etc. Really depends on your frame, I think.
