I need everyday shoes for spring - can I have some suggestions please?

In winter I wear mostly boots, in summer I wear mostly sandals or birkenstocks. But the in-between periods are a bit of a style disaster for me.

I typically walk 4-5 miles a day on journeys to and from school, sometimes running after bikes and scooters, so I need shoes I can walk and run in. I have chunky legs so I usually wear trousers, sometimes knee-length a-line skirts. I am the fattest non-pregnant mum in dd's class (not actually fat, size 12, but they are all very skinny and glamourous) and I need to look stylish and not frumpy.

Can you help me, please?

I linked to these on another thread, tried them on and they are pretty and comfy (didnt have right colour in my size or I'd have bought them).

Have you looked at Clarks?

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 25/03/2009 20:26

Converse look very stylish with trousers - everything from jeans to smart wide legs.

Would you consider ballet flats?

alarkaspree · 25/03/2009 22:52

Thank you for these. Oranges, I love Camper shoes but they are a bit pricier than I'm hoping for. I will go and have a look though, the canvas ones on the website look possible.

I'm not sure about ballet flats. I feel like they're wrong for my shape of legs - I think I need something a bit chunkier to balance out my wide calves. Am I wrong? I might well be.

Pannacotta thank you for those links. I meant to mention that I'm in the US though, so Jones and Clarks are difficult. Those Jones ones are nice, but I instinctively avoid black shoes. That's probably my problem. I would buy them in yellow, and then never have anything to wear them with. In fact I think I have in the past done exactly that.

Converse are a good idea. Should I get black ones?

cute

clarks are the poor woman's camper.

How about M&S footglove shoes? They're not the prettiest but they last for EVER, are really comfy and very easy to walk in. I have three different pairs that I alternate for work.

Bettymum · 26/03/2009 09:57

Oh. Just spotted you live in New York. . Not sure if you can get M&S in that case.

alarkaspree · 26/03/2009 12:20

Oh. Okay, so Clarks perfectly simple . Thanks fishie, I love those ones you linked to.

Also like the rockport ones.

Bettymum, I believe I can get M&S stuff here now, those shoes are a bit wintry for the New York spring but thank you for the suggestion.
