OK. I have £250. I need a black tie dress for when I'm 13 weeks pg.

Can anyone help me find one, please? I had one but it's so snug and I forgot that I might be showing by then.

I would like to hide the pgy at the wedding because nobody knows yet and I don't want there to be any attention taken away from bride and groom.

I don't want anyone to know until scan have been done, you see.

i doubt you will be showing beyond having a 'too much pudding' look. wear some spanx and a nice dress.

WinkyWinkola · 25/03/2009 11:56

Can I wear spanx when pg?

Good budget, there should be lots of nice things around. Not this 'body-con' stuff, obviously.

Empire line? Nice and floaty (assuming it will be spring) and you just need to perfect your best straight face for 'Do you remember when the only things in this shape were maternity dresses? Now they're everywhere, and I think it's pretty, don't you?'

Do you normally show early?

morningpaper · 25/03/2009 11:57

You will probably just look a bit fat so you will need to dress to hide that

You've got a HUGE budget, I'd start by going to Debenham's and try on stuff that's suitably swishy

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/03/2009 11:57

Long or short? What sort of colour?

TrillianAstra · 25/03/2009 11:58

At 13 weeks your baby will be teeny, no amount of constrictive underwear is going to hurt her (someone who actually knows ocme back me up?)

WinkyWinkola · 25/03/2009 12:04

I do show early weirdly enough considering I'm 6ft.

Love idea of spanx then.

I'd like a knee length dress in some rich colour - greens or blues........

slightly over budget, but lovely

CMOTdibbler · 25/03/2009 12:21

How about this ? The colour is fantastic

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 25/03/2009 12:24

Something from here? Plus you get mn discount and resale is very good, (if you won't wear it again).

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 25/03/2009 12:26

I don't see any reason why you can't wear spanx at 13 weeks but fwiw I could hardly bear the feel of sweat pant round my middle by then, anything constricting was awful.

fymmumoftwo · 25/03/2009 12:28

hire something! maternity will be too big and you'll be unlikely to fit into it again for a while.

I hired just after I had DS1 and it's a great option when your shape is changing

Galava · 25/03/2009 12:29

I was going to suggest Isabella Oliver too.

I had a couple of things from there and they were lovely.

Was recommended pea in a pod too, but never used them.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 25/03/2009 12:43

Stuff from Isabella Oliver is beautifully designed and will fit you all the way through from barely showing to full pg glory, cannot recomend their stuff highly enough.

CharleeInSpring · 25/03/2009 12:47

This is lovely, they have a lot of really nice evening ware for expecting mums. Have a look.

CharleeInSpring · 25/03/2009 12:47

Sorry didn't read that you wanted to hide your bump!

Lovely. Lots to choose from. Thank you for your help.

Got the Isabella Oliver 365 catalogue this morning which is their new non-maternity line. Some gorgeous dresses in your budget which are drapey and can be worn different ways so will probably see you a bit into pregnancy. Sorry, can't put link in while on phone but you'll find it through google. fine to wear spanx but I found they made me feel a bit sick when I wore them in early pg.

beforesunrise · 27/03/2009 13:54

went to a wedding last year when i was 11 wks pregnant with no2, i opted for a non-maternity empire style dress and keep'em guessing (they all guessed, sadly).
I bought some spanx, but i couldn't bear to actually wear them, it was so incredibly uncomfortable...

with no1 i had a wedding when i was 15 weeks, i just got a black dress in a size up from Hobbs I think, with loooaads of cleavage and a flattering shape, got many compliments for it (it was the cleavage i think).

also went to a wedding when i was 34 weeks pregnant and i found a wonderful and BARGAIN black silk dress on JojoMamanbebe, but it was really very very maternity and would have looked awful on anything but the most obvious bump.

if i were you i would stick with normal wear just potentially a size up, maternity wear is going to look v weird on a 13 weeks bump....
