So am going to very swanky do this evening, and my one and only swanky pair of shoes, bought at Christmas is no longer a pair.

Quite how this has happened is, frankly, the worthy subject of another thread, but it's gone missing, presumed squirelled away by either DD or DS who both looked at me with blank faces this morning when quizzed. DS because he is yet to understand much, and DD because at 3.5, she still has the memory of a goldfish.

So - anger aside, I need to find me a pair of shoes to wear with a black 50's style dress this evening. It's by Machka and has puffball sleeves and a big tie bow thingy at the side-waist. I haven't got a link to the dress itself, but for a flavour of their clothing see here Ingore the wierdy photo and click on style, then you can click the arrows through the collection. There's a slivery coat with broach that's broadly in the same sort of stylee.

I am on a busy major high street with most shoe store options so please can you help me with some specific ideas of what will go well with a 50's style dress, black opaque tights and hair in glamorous (hopefully) ponytail up do. I don't want to break the bank (just my DC's necks). Thanks ladies. I need to precision bomb in my lunch hour - can't afford to be running around everywhere - must be back in office for 2pm meeting!

I have no idea, but in something that stunning you could go barefoot and no one would notice!
I usually think ballet flats can go with anything though

Try Dune

I would agree, but I'm 5 ft 5 and a large size 12 and somehow flats make me feel short and fat. I think I need a heel - but what heel is best with a 50's style dress?

The one's I was going to wear were high, black satin with a bow on the back - I think they were LK Bennet in the sale at H of Fraser. Anyway, I don't want to buy something similar in case (vain hope) the other shoe actually turns up.

Are these shoes at Coast too dull? I thought the heel height and bow gave a nod to the 50s.

If the clothes on that website do your dress justice then no one will take much notice of your shoes anyway. You could wear a brighter colour shoe but do you really want to draw attention away from your dress?

No, not at all. They look great and a coast shop not too far from here. Wish they were still running their Grazia offer (presume it ended on Mother's day?)
