Where the hell do I start with spring/summer dresses, nothing suits me! I normally mooch around in linens and cut offs but really want to be a girl this summer.

I have bigish boobs (34DD), quite short (5ft2"), and would say sort of hourglass figure but torso is quite small if that makes any sense? Dark hair and eyes, pale skin.

As cheap as possible please, ideally second hand from ebay. What style should I go for? Wrap always looks nice but most are too mumsy (I'm 25).

Thanks ladies!

How are your upper arms ?

FigmentOfYourImagination · 20/03/2009 14:44

something knee length or just above the knee with a relatively deep v or scoop neckline (no high necklines). Cap sleeves or sleeveless depending on how you feel about the upper arms

Upper arms bad - will bear them tho as not self conscious but trinny & Sussanah (SP?) would be cross.

What about puffy layered ones are they bad? What about prints/strpies etc does anything go?

I'm interested in this thread too as the "school run" dress thread caught my eye. I am also a short-arse and large of nork, I also don't like baring my arms, so I don't really "do" dresses either. Or skirts. I always feel hot and boring in the summer.

I don't know what dress size you are but what about something like this Ted Baker dress? The V-neck will make your boobs look smaller and the loose fitting skirt will skim your thighs.

You could dress it down with a little denim jacket or a cardie.

navyeyelasH · 20/03/2009 18:30

Oh I love that ted baker dress! I'm somewhere between a 12-14 depending on the cut, I have quite large hips and bum so my size varies on the cut and also where it's from - always buy clothes from ebay at 14 to be safe and am good with a sewing machine so often alter.

Amandoh, how did you find that dress? Are there some key words I should be entering rather than trawling through 3 billion size 14 dresses?

Is halterneck ok do you think, it tends to make me feel like my shoulder are massive!

I just typed in "Summer Dress 14". I have the same size boobs as you (34/36DD) and usually take a size 12 but sometimes need a 14 in dresses as 12s often won't do up around my boobs so guessed your size as a 12/14. The Ted Baker dress does look like a halter neck but if you wore it under a jacket or cardi your shoulders wouldn't be exposed.

Like you I have wide hips and generally stick to wrap dresses but I don't like wearing them in the Summer as jersey is a bit warm.

Big boobs and wide hips/thighs look best in a dress that's fitted on top but more flowy on the skirt. This dress from Great Plains would be ideal. I'm getting it in white to wear under a denim jacket as I HATE my upper arms.
