Am feeling the need to give myself a little colour but am scared witless by serious fake tan (ie the tango shade favoured by z-list slebs).

Majority of my skin will tan very quickly just by pottering around with kids in garden etc but my face only ever tans over a 2 week holiday in serious sunshine.

What non-scary products do you use?

Are there any products which are wash-off rather than scrub for 3 days until the bugger shifts (if it all goes terribly wrong)?

I have a brilliant tinted moisturiser (Chanel) but want something to give me a sun-kissed glow

The Clinique fake tan that's specifically for the face in the lighter shade is a good 'un, too.

I just use the Olay touch of sun (or something ?) moisturiser . Very subtle but gives a bit of a glow

I second st tropez everyday.

For bronzer the Body Shop do fab bronzing balls been using them for years.

Thanks The St Tropez - does it give noticeable colour? And is it for face as well as body?

I have tried the JOhnsons and Olay stuff before but the first one made no difference and the second made me spotty

Also.......quick "application" issue: do you apply to the neck as well as face?? (apologies if this is a really stooopid question ).

I've started to use a Garnier facial spray, in light. A quick squirt and that's it. Everyone keeps saying how well I look.

I'm using Asda's own fake tan (less than £3!). I found the gradual moisturising ones came off in the pool, so far it's given me a nice colour and stayed on at swimming.

yes you must do neck too but lightly - i,e, how you would foundation i spose.

God It feels too early to me to commence that whole bloody palaver again. Might just hide away in top to toe clothes coverage for a bit longer.

clarins have a good face every day subtle one which is good too

I have used the loreal dry face mist for most of last summer and it is the easiest thing, with the best result (though st trop everyday is also excellent)

You put a hand over your hair line, close your eyes, and then spray on your face. Open eyes, wipe eyebrowns with a tissue and that is it. Gives flawless even tan colour - very natural sunkissed. And because it's a spray, no need for multiple hand-washing sessions.
