Do you dye your hair? if so, what colour and what colour is your natural colour?

my hair is auburn. i dye it dark brown, and its tough to get my hair to "take" to the dye. no matter what i do the red always comes through. does anyone else have this problem?

You need to use an ashy colour next time which won't have any red in it.

My hair is light mousy brown which is awful as I have quite olivy skin so have dyed it either dark brown or red since I was about 17

I use the L'oreal dye that takes 10 minutes as I don't have time to faff at salon or for 30 minutes with anormal dye.

Hi lissielou im auburn too its a nightmare dying our hair colour last time i tried i sat in hairdressers while they bleached it and then dyed it , took soooo long that ive kept to auburn now my DP loves my natural colour!!!

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2009 12:25

fiore, would it not be too pale? my skin is v pale, i have a redheads colouring which is a pita.

babywhiting, dh likes my natural colour, so does ds. that nice and easy ad with the red shoes? ds always points to the woman and says "thats mummy's hair" although hers is much nicer. mine is straight until it gets to a certain point then it goes nuts!

You can get browns that are ashy and not reddy IYSWIM - they can still be dark.

God if I had that beautiful red hair I would go with it.

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2009 12:30

when i was pg with ds i didnt dye my hair at all, so by the time he arrived it was bright red. it is lovely on other people, but i was teased mercilessly about it when i was younger. now ive dyed it so often that its second nature.

my hair is naturally mousy but i like to dye it cos im covered in grey (am only 30 ) i normally go for dark brown/reds but have recently found black/blue and vivid purple which i love! Dyed hair this morning and is now vivid purple!

beanieb · 14/03/2009 13:01

my hair is a medium blonde and I dye it medium brown - dark brown. I can see grey now though!

Jewelsandgems · 14/03/2009 19:18

Wow I would love to have natural vibrant red hair!

I have mousy brown hair and have it highlighted in the palest blondes but I have very pale skin so it looks very natural. (plus my hair is fine, but with a full head of highlights it is suddently thick and luscious!)

Agree there are ashy browns out there, but I would think your red would still come through. How about keeping your natural colour, and adding some darker reds, browns and even a warm caramel as highlights? It may be more than you want to spend though, havng it done proffessionally, but I think the result would be stunning.

pointydog · 14/03/2009 19:24

I have it dyed brown with blondish highlights. My natural colour is probably almost white

Tortington · 14/03/2009 19:25

my hair was always naturally dark brown, but as i have aged my skin pigment has lightened and i start to look ill, so i am using a lighter shade of brown as i age

TimeForMe · 14/03/2009 19:45

My hair is a dark brown (not too dark) and I dye it with Garnier Nutrisse shade 4.26 Blackcurrant and I love it! It's the nicest colour I have ever had it and it gets me loads of compliments!

Tortington · 14/03/2009 19:46

i do the tesco 97p one - yes its true 97p

bluebump · 14/03/2009 19:57

I am naturally mousy but have bleached highlights in so it looks pretty blonde. I seem to be going darker brown as I get older as I leave the underneath bits that no one sees. I have taken to doing it myself lately which hasn't always been successful so have been thinking of putting more brown back in.

macherie · 14/03/2009 21:14

look here

lumpsdumps · 14/03/2009 22:36

Was blonde, now brunette

Habbibu · 14/03/2009 22:38

And brownish, but have been henna red/brown for about 18 years - I love it, and get lots of compliments about it.

Am, I mean, not And.
