FFS

Dh told me he was taking me to a 'ball'

turns out it's a 'Hawaiian' dress code

I can't stand things like this but we have to go!

What can I wear? No way am I turning up in a Hawaiian shirt and bermuda shorts...

Any suggestions so I don't look like a complete arse?

I would go for a flowing kaftan/maxi dress with leis - those flower garlands to wear around your neck

fuzzywuzzy · 10/03/2009 16:27

grass skirt, bikini top and flowers round your neck???

kitkat9 · 10/03/2009 16:27

maybe I could get dd (2) to make me a lei!

btw, am 5'3, sz 14, fair skinned blonde hair. Bit plump. Big norks.

Look up Hawaiian fancy dress on internet and get stuff from there. Wear with a sarong type thing and vest top if don't wish to go the whole bikini top route I hate stuff like this as well but my eldest wnet to a Hawaiian themed party so am a bit of an experts atm.

Would your norks permit this?

Would look gorge with flowers in your hair, flower lei and some flip-flops.

Am quite jealous, actually!

BitOfFun · 10/03/2009 16:32

FGS, never go to a Hawiian-themed party in February dressed in a pink bikini, garland and grass skirt, because you will find that the most the other guests do is wear a flower hairclip or a bright shirt. Then you will look like a stripper.

fuzzywuzzy · 10/03/2009 16:33

yes yes do as I suggest, look

BitOfFun · 10/03/2009 16:33

Ah, I see that fuzzywuzzy has warned you off already...

fuzzywuzzy · 10/03/2009 16:34

more here

Starbear · 10/03/2009 16:35

Why not a halter neck dress in a summer colour green /yellow with a jungle like flower in your hair or waist. Sandals and a garland of flowers. If you have long hair curly it. Bright green and jungle colours of yellow and red maybe!

BitOfFun · 10/03/2009 16:35

Very similar to my outfit, except my string bikini was skimpier and you could see my nipples through it when I had to stand outside for a fag...

fuzzywuzzy · 10/03/2009 16:35

here

missblythe · 10/03/2009 16:36

frock

Could have this altered to fit you

missblythe · 10/03/2009 16:37

AlistairSim · 10/03/2009 16:37

A fake 'tache, a gun and a twinkly smile?

SoupDragon · 10/03/2009 16:37

Is a "Hawaiian" similar to a "Brazillian" but more flowery?

fuzzywuzzy · 10/03/2009 16:38

BOF, not to worry, you are talking the girl who went as princess Leia to the last christmas party.....I feel your pain, however I feel not enough people feel our pain, sooooo kitkat, do post a thread afterwards telling us how it all went....

BitOfFun · 10/03/2009 16:38

Ouch

kitkat9 · 10/03/2009 16:39

missblythe, that dress is lovely but too expensive..

tinker, it's not a 'fancy dress' party, so I'll have to look reasonably sensible.

There is no way in hell you would catch me out in a bikini top and grass skirt at the best of times...but especially just now as I have 2 stone of baby weight to lose and am particularly pale and flabby at the mo..

I'm thinking short floral dress like this

(am in America so American clothes websites welcome)

fuzzy, am pmsl at your links...especially loving the wig

bof - am suitably warnd by your experience, and am sorry you went through that, but still, !

OP posts:
Starbear · 10/03/2009 16:47

Sorry Kitkat I think that dress looks a little dull. But I should be going now to pick up my Ds so can't hunt for you>

fuzzywuzzy · 10/03/2009 16:58

OK OK,

How about this?

fuzzywuzzy · 10/03/2009 17:01

these any good

I am being sensible now, guess BOF and I will be alone with our memories of questionable party attire.....
