Going to the ball on Sat night...

...and I haven't lost the stone I wanted to!

What last minute preparations can I make to give me confidence and make me look fab?

I just got back off hols so thankfully don't need a St Tropez.

Was thinking:
buying some false lashes (not drag queen-esque though :-)
still need some fab shoes so going to LK Bennett in bicester village
getting my hair done on sat afternoon
those false stick on nail thingys???

My dress is from Karen Millen and is a full length black satin hour glass frock with cowl back. Normally I would wear my spanx but its too low at the back. - Reckon I could cut a hole in them?

Argggh, I haven't been to a ball since leaving high school.

Oh and another thing....

how do I go about getting my makeup done at a counter? Do I have to make an appointment?
Will they make me buy loads of stuff?

Ta :-)

OOh don't go too OTT!

A good mascara/eyeliner applied well will mean no falsies. They are v. hard to apply (IMO) and run the risk of looking drag queenie if not careful.

Maybe the little individual lashes at a push, but even then the stress of appying them straight does not outweigh the benefit gained. ( Does that make sense?)

Shoes...make sure you wear them round the house so no blisters on the night. Or take plasters in your hand bag! Not sure how you could get your make up done at a counter and it would still look fresh for a ball.

I'm sure you could do it fine yourself, or watch one of Lauren Luke's masterclasses on Youtube
.

DIY alterations on your knickers... maybe look for a pair that only come up to tummy button, or is that too high still? Are you wearing a bra?

They never make you buy loads of stuff but OTOH you might not end up with a look you like so Choose Wisely which counter/assistant you approach. Also make sure you haven't got to go in the shower afterwards....!

I htink if you cut hole in your spanx they would be dead and completely ineffective. Can you get something lower? Where do you actually need the control - thighs/hips or tummy? Could you get away with control tights?

I would rather do short, neat nails than stick-ons anyday.

Have fun. I'm also off to the ball tomorrow

DOn't fall into the trap of thinking you have to go ALLL out in the glamour stakes. Smoky eyes, neutral lip gloss, neat nails (agre with Sue W) fab hair and confidence will look great. You might feel done up like a Christmas tree otherwise.

Just boughtthis

Hoping it will hold my mummy tummy in enough

have done individual lashes before and quite like them. I am a redhead and have very very short blonde lashes, so I really need some help!

Have hair apt at 4pm so was thinking could fit in trip to a dept store after for make-up. Thinking bobbi brown, or Dior, or channel, or Clarins...etc

SueW - oooh you going to my ball???

Thanks for your help :-)
