OK, having been pregnant for what feels like 4 years, I'm finally excited to start looking after myself. However, in a complete moment of insane cleaning prior to my DD being born, I threw out the majority of my beauty cupboards and all my make up because it was all quite old.

What essentials do I need? Can you recommend your make up/beauty musts?

Tinted moisturiser. Lip gloss. Eye liner/eye shadow in dark colour to be used as eyeliner. Decent make-up brushes. Set of eyeshadows to do a very basic eye make-up (brown for me).

Sun block or foundation with a high SPF- I have used Clinique City Block SPF 25 and now 40 for over 10 years- and even though I do say it, people think I am mid 40s and I am mid 50s- the sun is a killer for skin.

Beauty musts- depending on how much coverage you need- tinted moisturiser or foundation- thereare some very light ones around now- blusher, eye pencil, mascar adn lip gloss.

I always forget spf! Thanks for the reminder and advice. I used to work with a woman who once genuinely shocked my socks off when she revealed she was 20 years older than I'd thought and she swore to me that the sun was evil and that he constant moisturising and spf obsession was the reason for her youthful appearence!!

I agree- I won't go out without SPF 25 at least. Don't rely on what is in foundation, as you have to spread it so thinly that it doesn't do much good.
Clinique City Block makes a great primer for make up- I put it over moisturiser, then my foundation etc. In summer, I use one with SPF 50!

Ideally a excellent match for a foundation

What make mascara is good? I used More Lashes by Max Factor but I swear it has disappeared off the face of the earth.

Have tried lots and all are too wet or flake off during the day.

Lancome- expensive but I am now converted- I like Hypnose. Try ebay for cheaper!

I agree - PhytaOil has been great for my skin which is uber sensitive and helped with stretchmarks (sorry I think we all get them). xx

Trilogy Rosehip oil is gorgeous on the face - helping my dodgy fine lines round the eyes, and skin is very happy and smooth, rather than blotchy and dried out. Does smell a teeny bit chip-shop, but doesn't bother me once its rubbed in.

Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara off ebay - absolutely fantastic, doesn't come off and keeps lashes nicely full and separated.

Mac coffee eyeliner - lovely cool-toned brown.

Mac Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick - beautiful corally-red, very wearable and best worn in a casual, no liner fashion. Gives my face & mood a real lift

Maybelline Dreamy Cream Foundation - easy to apply (I use a kabuki brush), lovely coverage and looks very nice. Hardly even need concealer with it.
