Longish straight hair. How to wear a fascinator?

I have been talked into buying a fascinator on a comb and I'm not sure it's my thing

My hair is slightly longer than shoulder length, layered slightly and I don't suit it scraped off my face too much. Any ideas please?

Don't.

Sorry I think they look bizarre. Either wear a hat, or a nice clip/comb/headband etc. Fascinators just look odd as if you have a dead budgie sticking out of the side of your head.

Dropdeadfred · 18/02/2009 14:24

Hmmmm...even the name 'fascinator' amuses me

Ceolas · 18/02/2009 14:27

Oh God.

See that's how I felt. I wanted a clip or something but couldn't find anything nice. I was talked into it by my mum and sister today.

Try this... bung your hair into a bun and slide the fascinator (to be said in Kath and Kim type voice) into the side, just beside the bun. Tputting the bun kind of asymmetric on the back of your head so the fascinator balances the bun out...

Or, as you're not a huge fan of wearing hair off your face, why not attach a bit of netting for a vintagey feel?

They can look quite nice I think!

But, at the end of the day, it's about how you feel, so if you don't like it, don't feel that you have to wear it. What sort of clip did you have in mind?

Ceolas · 20/02/2009 13:19

Thanks katie, bun was a bit severe...

Any other suggestions? Or should I ditch it? DH's helpful comment was "Well from this angle it looks like you could pick up SKY digital!"

Dont

they are shit

I think they are fab but prefer the type on a hairband. Then you can wear you hair down in its normal style and have the facinator on top of head but offset to one side. Think debenhams have some at mo which also incorporate the netting as mentioned above. I think if you normally suit hats you'll suit it. But if you dont have the confidence, dont...because like wearing a hat it really draws the attention to you. Which is naturally why I always try to wear a hat!

I always think that they sound like some sort of Victorian marital aid.

I'm with Supermario.
Fascinators are very passe.

Tried on one of the hair band ones, I didn't like the hairband bit, it does show and looks a bit silly. I think the comb ones might look better but haven't tried it. I was planning on wearing a facinator but now not sure about them.
