What should I wear? I am going to visit offices of top swanky fashion magazine in NY and do not want to look like a fat version of Ugly Betty...

...any ideas? Friend is editor and she will be in Paris looking at the collections, but her assistant is going to show me round the offices and the beauty closet.

I am not a fashionista and am fat. I don't think anyone of my size will have darkened their doors before, and I don't want them all laughing at me.

keep it simple, tailored and with a fab ginormous accessory.

fishie · 16/02/2009 21:39

how fat? be beautifully dressed, so nails, makeup, shoes, accessories etc. you will likely look v foreign anyway

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/02/2009 21:40

Fat - not huuuge, but big enough (size 20-ish). I am tall, which I am grateful for. Perhaps they will just treat me kindly as a little curiosity from England?

it sounds great, what fun to see all that. shame your friend not there.

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/02/2009 21:48

Yes, fishie, I was hoping that she was going to take me shopping, too. Ah well.

your grooming and accessories will need to be tip top. but you can get done over when you get to NYC, that's the fun. in fact there's a case to get a personal shopper in macy's or somewhere.

Have you seen Suzy Menkes? She is fash ed of Herald Tribune I believe and all round fashion maven.

Most of the time she looks a lot more interesting than this... I'm sure you are v chic and have a lovely time - v jealous.

AitchTwoOh · 16/02/2009 21:55

miz, but suzy does her thing with her hair.

dizzydixies · 16/02/2009 21:56

anna sholz stuff is lovely

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/02/2009 21:57

Ah well, if a fash ed can look like that, then there is hope for me. Point taken on accessories - was hoping to get new bag there - maybe that should be my first purchase...

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/02/2009 21:59

Have quite a lot of Anna Scholz stuff, so maybe I will wear one of my frocks.
