I think I need help! What to wear for a rare night on the razz?

i am going out soon for a girls' night out, only to a pub but I want to look nice as I have been feeling post-baby frumpy lately. Most of the other women will probably be wearing nice jeans and a funky top but I try not to wear jeans as I have short legs and a long body and I think they accentuate this. I am thinking maybe a dress but don't want to look too over the top!

I am 5ft 4, large of nork with very dark hair and pale skin and I am 35. Can anyone help? Ta muchley.

i rather like this, but then I am an old hippy

mollyroger · 16/02/2009 18:22

love the colours on this

rolledhedgehog · 16/02/2009 18:23

I like the blue dress Cornsilk but I think it might be a bit too formal for a night in the pub.

Shops I like are...Monsoon, Kew, Debenhams (some ranges), Principals. I would like to be more funky but so much does not suit me e.g tunics and also don't want to wear styles I wore in the 80's!

I was avoiding linking to monsoon (it is my default ) but there some lovely dresses online. Maybe not funky, but very pretty.

geisha

mollyroger · 16/02/2009 18:28

sorry, spotty

rolledhedgehog · 16/02/2009 18:30

I like the tulip dress Vincenzo. I think I could do that shape as I have no hips so it might give me some. Would I wear black opaque tights with that?

I also like Mollyrodger's leaf dress but wonder about the frills.

phase eight

rolledhedgehog · 16/02/2009 18:32

I love that Monsoon Geisha dress but the neckline is too high for my bust. It it was lower it would be ideal.

rolledhedgehog · 16/02/2009 18:34

Also like Cornsilk's Phase eight dress but again I can't do high necklines as makes my bust look huge and low.

What about a wrap dress?

mollyroger · 16/02/2009 18:36

have to go, good luck, happy shopping and i will be back to see what you have settled on [nosey]]

What do you think of this......

I like the colour and have some patent grey boots that might go nicely.

VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 18:38

btw where are you going?

cornsilk · 16/02/2009 18:42

That's nice!

rolledhedgehog · 16/02/2009 19:05

Vincenzo - I am only going to a crappy pub but it is someone's birthday and also someone going has made a couple of comments lately about our relative ages so I want to look good .

OP posts:
VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 19:38

oh yes one of my lest popular theories is that everyone is trying to say something one a night out by their choice of clothes.

ie " i am still a raving nympho"
or " i can stil look good even though I dont work"

etc

rolledhedgehog · 16/02/2009 19:46

I am trying to say 'I may be 6 years older than some of you but with age comes style wisdom so feck off and take your skinny jeans with you.'

OP posts:
VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 19:47

Hmm that is good.
have oyu thought, btw of wide legs trews and a tight wrap top?

VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 19:51

ok get this
this kIND of idea for trousers with cute coloured round toe mary janes peeking out ( lenght of trews vital) and a top ooh this would match up wiht grey boots

then big earrings and you are off

janeite · 16/02/2009 19:51

Don't like that Bravissimmo one, sorry. It looks like the fabric would not feel very nice and also like it could really make norks look gigantic.

Although "feck off and take yer skinny jeans with you" is a good message to give out methinks.

The blue dress with black opaques and platforms could look very good indeed. You're right though, maybe a bit too dressy just for the pub.

VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 19:51

mroe trews

rolledhedgehog · 16/02/2009 20:50

I don't wear trews much because I have to get petite ones. I have been contemplating high waisted wide leg jeans recently but then had a shoe dilemma. I think that I need to actually get off my arse and go to the shops to try things on. You have all been very helpful as I would not have contemplated most of these garments but will seek some out and give them a go.

Also will expand my range of shops as I never go in Oasis etc anymore as thought I was too old but maybe I need to be braver!

rolledhedgehog · 16/02/2009 20:53

Forgot to say..thanks to all for help. Will update when I have actually bought something and hopefully no one will say it is bloody awful.

OP posts:
janeite · 16/02/2009 20:53

Principles are good for petite length trousers; also M&S Limited or Autograph collections.

paddingtonbear1 · 16/02/2009 23:40

Vincenz I liked that Kew top you linked to, looks v flattering - have ordered it in black!
OP let us know how you get on
