Does anyone make or design their own clothes?

Im gunna try and make or alter some of my clothes to make them more funky and stylish. Ive got a couple of pairs of jeans and trousers that don't fit me properly any more so im gunna cut the legs off and turn them into skirts and add some decor to them. does anyone else do stuff like this? any good ideas you would like to share?

yeah, sequins and beads are all in. gunna go to a sewing shop to get some beads and things. i also saw a few necklaces in Primark today that i might buy and then cut the strings and just use the beads. there also seems to be a lot of denim skirts with extra pleated bit of random material sewn on the bottom. they look pretty funky. how bout tops? any good ideas for altering or designing summery tops?

Im a size 10 (sometimes 12). Ive not got a sewing machine. I will get one if i really get into this but i go through fazes and then get bored and then move onto something else. I have been wanting to do this for ages though so hopefully this will become a new hobby. What material is the best and easiest to work with?

sorry - i know this is an old thread..
but just to say, i make patterns from tops and skirts etc i already have...really easy and you can make several variations from the basic. Been trying to figure out how to make things 'maternity' in this way..though may wait til my bump is a bit bigger so i can get accurate measurements rather than just guessing.
