I need some shorts for a holiday (these ones are Boden, sorry! )- are these just too boring or are they ok?

And how exciting can shorts really be anyway?!

Lizzylou · 12/02/2009 14:20

I quite like them, but they would look horrific on me

Rhubarb · 12/02/2009 14:23

They're ok. How about denim ones though? I've got some very short, frayed denim ones that look good.

TheCrackFox · 12/02/2009 14:23

meh

MamacitaGordita · 12/02/2009 14:28

I thought about denim but the denim ones I find seem to be designed for 16 year olds with gazelle legs.

Oh I have found some exciting shorts In fact Topshop seem to have cornered the exciting shorts market...

I think I may have owned those in the early 90s actually...

The boden ones are ok but you would need to have a very flat tummy and the topshop ones are f@$&ing hideous!

MamacitaGordita · 12/02/2009 14:33

Hmmmm. Tummy defo not as flat as it has been historically. Good point.

You are joking about those shorts aren't you?

MamacitaGordita · 12/02/2009 14:38

YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!

Holy crap ! Those topshop ones are fab

cherryblossoms · 12/02/2009 15:32

I have those shorts.

I layer them with footless tights, a woollen knitted dress and Uggs for the schoolrun.

They look fab.

mazzystartled · 12/02/2009 15:36

those boden shorts are the kind worn by obese american tourists or boy shouts circa 1967
i prefer the topshop ones
do you really want shorts?
really? get a sundress instead

MamacitaGordita · 12/02/2009 18:13

cherryblossoms I can see my very svelte 19 year old sister looking amazing in the aztec cycling shorts too... prob am just !

Hmmm mazzy the boy scout look is not one I'm aiming for. My thought behind shorts rather than dress is that I can get more outfits out of the shorts IYSWIM.

Ach poo now I just don't know!

mazzystartled · 12/02/2009 18:31

how old are you and are you fabulously lissom and ever so slightly edgy?
[is it mama g dressed up btw?]
i am not meaning to be unhelpful, its just that if you are really truly considering those chino shorts, i am guessing not. but otherwise, dresses much better. or maybe even summery skirt if dead set on separates?
is it for a proper sunshine holiday?

MamacitaGordita · 12/02/2009 22:24

Ooh I am not MamaG- she is much cleverer than me!

I am 26 and I used to be edgy. Alas, no more.

I do prefer dresses I must admit. Tis for proper tropical holiday in Trinidad.

Ok so this? or similar but in a more exciting colour!

Why do you need shorts?
Especially Scout uniform shorts....

cherryblossoms · 12/02/2009 22:46

Mamacita - I feel bad now - I was only joking. i am a million times too old for the Topshop shorts. If I tried to wear them, small children would follow me, mocking me and throwing things. and older people would come up to me and ask me if I was lost. Obviously, the incongruity of someone my shape and years in such an item of clothing was a little lost on the internet but I'm a bit of a tech-numpty and I just forgot that.
I suspect all the above may not be the case with Mazzystar ... .
Btw, my mil would look good in the boden shorts. I mean that in a good way. She's actually quite hot (and was chatted up by a Venetian Count (!) a while back). They are just the sort of thing she wears. Somehow she always manages to look casual but ironed and pressed too.

MamacitaGordita · 12/02/2009 23:00

Oh dear cherryblossoms! I didn't want to offend you as I thought you were serious!! My sister would look good in them and prob mazzystar too. However they just bring too many Salt n Pepper flashbacks to my mind.

The scouting reference has been mentioned enough times to steer me away from the shorts... although wouldn't mind a little Venetian Count lovin'! (Or at least use of his Venetian villa)

mazzystartled · 12/02/2009 23:06

ha! bless you but i would probably be either hospitalised or imprisoned if i wore shorts of any kind.

i can see how a glam/preppy woman of certain years might look ok in the boden ones but that is the precise reason why a young slip of a 26-year old shouldn't be seen dead in them. especially when there are so many other options. dresses is the way, if its for tropical heat you don't have to spend much.

MamacitaGordita · 12/02/2009 23:10

I hear you mazzy. I have lost my style way post-bebe... back in the scout cupboard, shorts!
Thanks all!
