well I walked to pick the DS's up from school last week wearing

DS2's (infant school) wooly beanie hat
DS1's (junior school) school jacket
and a pair of DS1's gloves

Did I care what I looked like...........ermm NO - I was warm, when faced with freezing or looking silly there was really no competition

i've had one for years (no pompom though) am rather alarmed they appear to have become some kind of fad. fact is they're damned warm, spesh if you have a proper wool one rather than acrylic, so tbh don't give a stuff what anyone else thinks (my perennial refrain when it comes to clothes and appearance )
