Okay - I admit that I normally hate Next with a passion. I occasionally walk in thinking "surely they'll have at least one nice thing" and walk out thirty seconds later in a nauseous whirl of foul pink, sludgy green and hideous patterns.

However, I was just looking on the website for something that dd2 might wear, since she has hardly anything that fits her and I found this:
shirt. I really rather like the look of it and wondered if anybody had seen it in real life?

Tia.

Oh that looks nice. Not seen it in rl, and would be hell if you are large of nork (although if you are you would prob know that so not be asking )

janeite · 07/02/2009 19:15

Thanks Flame - I am around a 32DD/E but I thought with the scoopy bit about the neckline it might be okay. How large of nork would one need to be to make it hell?

if you zoom in there is a seam on what would probably be the bottom/middle of the bust for your size rather than underneath/very bottom which would most likely make it hang funny. Plus the ruffles for me (32F) would make me matronly.

I think it is probably a try it and see job - I dunno how many tops I assume will look terrible on my shape when they wouldn't really iyswim

Jewelsandgems · 07/02/2009 19:28

Agree flame I would think that top is more something recommended to ladies who are small around the boobs. It is nice though - I am a 30dd and know there is too much going on for me.

janeite · 07/02/2009 19:31

Thanks both. Goes back to the drawing board.

Any ideas? I want something to wear with a pencil skirt for work, not white as it looks awful on me and not plain black - and not frumpy!

How about something like this? With the top few buttons open...

Too casual?

Too simular to white in colour? Would look great tucked into pencil skirt though (worn with strapless bra for extra effortless chic)

mileniwmffalcon · 07/02/2009 19:46

thing about next is even if you're fooled lured in by something that looks as though it may be verging on stylish when you actually try it on it will be utterly bizarrely cut and look like a sack of shite spuds.

step away from the next website...

janeite · 07/02/2009 19:47

Thanks Jewels. I don't like the FC or TS ones. I LOVE the TB one but that colour looks hideous on me too - my skin is very, very pale and white and cream just seems to merge into my skin colour and make me look either naked, or dead.

Falcon - you are almost certainly right!

Where should I look instead then? I have birthday pennies to spend!

OP posts:
Jewelsandgems · 07/02/2009 19:50

The TB one also comes in a rather bright pink. You would look hot in it though! (certainly get you noticed in the office)

mileniwmffalcon · 07/02/2009 19:51

hmm monochrome tailored/military, how about allsaints?

Jewelsandgems · 07/02/2009 19:53

Found this on coast
www.coast-stores.com/fcp/product/-/ALLTops/Eugiene-Top/2244561280 though it is a bit chilly for winter (unless you layer it over a chiffon blouse)

janeite · 07/02/2009 19:53

Gosh that pink is loud!!

All Saints stuff doesn't suit me: I am too short and too curvy. I do like it though.

This is very smart from karen millen
www.karenmillen.com/fcp/product/-/Shirts/Pin-tuck-shirt/903000052334?page=prod903000052334 and they do it in white and black yay!

www.karenmillen.com/fcp/product/-/Shirts/Stripe-folded-shirt/903000052225?page=prod903000052225 this looks a bit terrible up close, but when you look at overview, where it is shown with top buttons un-done, it looks lovely.

same thing with this one, looks better just in the 'tops' page shown with top buttons undone

janeite · 07/02/2009 20:14

Now they are quite nice, especially the middle one with the buttons open - but there is no way in the world I would pay that much for a shirt - and iirc KM sizing is miniscule, so can't imagine them fitting the norks without having to go too big across the back. That was the problem I had with All Saints too.

OP posts:
Jewelsandgems · 07/02/2009 20:19

Aaah now I have never had that problem with Karen Millen....

I had a look on the all saints website though and thought alot of looked really awful (like rags!) A few skirts were nice but other than that, just ugly!

janeite · 07/02/2009 20:20

It appeals to the ex-Goth in me though!

OP posts:
Jewelsandgems · 07/02/2009 20:24

Well janeite, I really cannot find anything nice at all to go with your skirt. Infact, there is hardly anything to go at all!! What is going on?!! I think the shops are all caught up in the SS ranges, and not bothering about tailoring

Hope you have more look when some more MNers come along!

janeite · 07/02/2009 20:26

Thanks for trying Jewels. I'm glad it's not just me. I walked around town today with dd1 and everything seemed horrible - either racks of nasty sale stuff or weird colours, patterns and shapes.

I'm really struggling to know where to shop nowadays - am 39.

Even my usual favourites, M&S Limited Collection and Gap didn't appeal: Gap was particularly bad.
