Looking good in the gym.

I am planning on rejoing the gym shortly and I need kit. I have new trainers but will need jogging bottoms, tops etc and especially a very very miraculous good sports bra.

Also my hair is a long bob so too short to look good in a ponytail but too long to wear down. Are bunches a no no? Is there any hairbands that would stay in?

Clearly you don't go to my gym kerrymum! Its all yummy mummys in designer tracksuits. And the dancing mums. Plus its an excuse to shop

Look at her profile Kerry - she's 26. It's only us oldies that no-one's bothered about.

dragonbutter · 07/02/2009 00:16

try wiggle and girlsruntoo.

can't be bothered linking properly sorry.

pigtails may be forgiveable in the gym, but maybe you could use clips to hold you ponytail back properly, or a cap.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 07/02/2009 00:18

Thanks DB will have a look. Better now do it now though dh has just come back in and after hammering his the card on the last day of hols he would pass out if he thought I was planning on spending more money.

I wear cropped fitted pants, and matching top from pineapple. I find the long pants always wash too short and the pineapple stuff actually looks flattering too.

Hair-wise, maybe a tight french plait? I honastly think hair-wise no one should care in the gym because (if you are doing it properly!) your hair will look a bit of a mess by the end of it anyway

TrillianAstra · 07/02/2009 15:03

Exercise-clothing-related question for al your knowledgeable people (sorry for hijack - I have no idea about nice gym clothes): do I really need a sports bra if I'm only a (small) B cup? Really really?

TrillianAstra · 07/02/2009 15:05

PS Bunches are very sensible if you are only 26 and also doing it for exercise-related practical reasons. Not so great if you are 40 and it's a fashion statment, although I think there was a slightly shouty thread about this a while ago (you shouldn't have bunches over the age of 12 vs I can wear bunches if I want even when I'm 60)

Jewelsandgems · 07/02/2009 19:18

Trillian no you do not need a sports bra. My gym top from pineapple has a built in support bra and I also wear a strapless bra (to wear a bra with straps would seriously undermine the stylishless of the outfit dahling)

GrinAndTonic · 07/02/2009 19:31

I had so much trouble find a sports bra here (cannot find Berlei ones for love or money) that I went to Rigby and Peller and bought one of theirs. It has NO underwire and I am used to wearing steel reinforcing. Nothing moves in this bra and I am an E cup.

TrillianAstra · 08/02/2009 11:06

Built-in bra/top thingy sounds like a good idea, thanks.

catinthehat1 · 08/02/2009 11:26

Earphones on a headband work well to keep annoying fringe bits out of your face as well .

paddingtonbear1 · 08/02/2009 11:50

my fave gym gear is a pair of 3/4 length pants by USA pro and matching top. Not the cheapest but I've had them ages and they still look fine even after all that washing!

bigTillyMint · 08/02/2009 16:36

Depends what you feel comfortable in.

I hate feeling too hot, so prefer strappy tops and not full-length tracky bottoms 3/4 or shorter.

Also built in bra fine if you're flat-chested like me

Jewelsandgems · 09/02/2009 15:44

Well tilly I am a 30dd! But I do wear an extra strapless bra for support

spugs · 09/02/2009 16:27

i wear a pair of adidas tracky bottoms that are made out of lycra style stuff but are boot cut and therefore flattering. hate cheap tracky bottoms as the knees always go funny! on top normally vest tops or tshirts generally the ones i dont wear anymore from topshop/ primark etc. i am going to buy some nice ones at some point though.
I wear a sports bra if im doing anything other then weights, im a 30 F and was told they would sag if i didnt! so its a level 4 shock absorber for me. If your running or doing classes i would get one for some extra support no matter what size you are, you get different levels and some of the lighter support ones look quite nice (mine makes me look like ive got on the madonna cone top).
Hair wise an alice band bungee thing or clips.
I like sweaty betty stuff but its sooo expensive

MrsMattie · 09/02/2009 16:29

lol! Why does anyone care what they look like in the gym?

mosschops30 · 09/02/2009 16:31

I got up today and didnt even clean my teeth, threw on my trackies and top, pulled greasy hair back into nasty ponytail and went to the gym.

I couldnt give a toss what I look like when Im there, I then have a nice showe, teeth, make up, hair and hey presto I can face the world

Jewelsandgems · 09/02/2009 21:04

That's the thing spuggs, I have two shock absorber bras but they look so awful, and they make my boobs look much saggier than anything else! Not that you have not got be thinking however....my shock absorber bras are a 32 back and are too big on the back anyway - what brand is your 30f one? Where did you get it? I only do yoga, pilates and bobybalance though, and they is not much jumping, mostly holding poses etc.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 09/02/2009 21:07

Built in support would not work for me. I need steel reinforcement.

Are those Rigby and Peller ones really expensive? Where do you get them? I am not far off an E cup myself .

I had a look at those sites and they look good but expensive.

The R&P once cost me aroun 36 (pound sign doesnt work). I am a size 18/20 too so have extra fat to contain as well. I love this bra. Feel like I cant breathe at first but would rather that then a black eye from flailing norks.

LouIsAHappyLittleVegemite · 10/02/2009 12:12

Oh yeah. I buy lots of gym clothes from m&s and from sports direct. Cheap.
