Do you colour your hair - am I asking too much of hairdresser?

On Tuesday had my hair coloured and cut. I went to my regular salon (though not had a colour there before)

My usual hairdresser had called in sick, so I had my hair coloured by one hairdresser and then trimmed shaped by another. I had discussed with my regular stylist beforehand what colour i was having (she had made some suggestions)but had to explain my criteria to the new stylist.

  1. it had to cover the brassy lighter ends (from a colour last summer)
  2. it needs to cover the grey!!!

I've been growing my hair out since having chemo and have quite a bit of grey underneath.

Any way I left the salon £100 lighter and pleased, but then yesterday in 'natural' light I noticed you can still see all the grey After pulling one out it is clear the colour has only taken on the roots - where she applied it first and left for 20 mins and then applied the rest of colour for another 15mins?

Is this normal? I expected to not see the grey?

Nope, sounds like she didn't leave it on long enough if you have pulled out a hair and it's on the roots and not the length.

You definitely had a full colour and not highlights?

Go back and show her that it hasn't taken and she will redo it for you.

MrsOnTheMove · 06/02/2009 10:49

Had about 8 foil highlights around the fringe area and full colour on the rest. She applied colour to the roots left it for 20 mins then applied colour to the rest of it for about 15 mins, but having pulled out a few hairs had a good look all the hair has colour on the roots and a bit on the ends.

DH told me to complain - but not sure?

I would go back, hairdressers are usually happy to fix something if it's not what you expected or you're not happy with it. They'd rather that and you keep coming back as a happy customer than you go away disgruntled never to return.

piratecat · 06/02/2009 10:51

complain

she may not have use the right type of colour for the rest of it? 100 quid is alot!!!

cmotdibbler · 06/02/2009 10:52

Def complain - if you aren't happy, then they should correct it. Covering the grey is certainly a given for colouring !

WEESLEEKITLauriefairycake · 06/02/2009 10:52

Definitely go back - you are not complaining, you are saying the colour didn't take, it's a technical thing

ChiefMangosuthuButhelezi · 06/02/2009 10:53

You paid for a service, they didn't deliver that service correctly, so ring them up, explain what's happened, to the manager, and arrange to go back and have it redone. There shouldn't be a problem, they won't get funny with you.

Bertolli · 06/02/2009 10:53

Yes if you are not happy go back and tell them.
I did this recently and they are quite happy to fix it(for free)
It means that if you are then pleased with the final result you are likely to return. You've parted with a hundred quid so it ought to be as you want it!! Go for it

MrsOnTheMove · 06/02/2009 10:53

Thank you - off to phone them now

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MORE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!

MrsOnTheMove · 06/02/2009 11:02

Just called them and they have booked me back in next week, to see what they can do.

Have no intention of paying anything more - I'm such a wimp at complaining

piratecat · 06/02/2009 11:04

well done!! just saying 'it didn't take' is a good suggestion

technically and that!!

MrsOnTheMove · 06/02/2009 11:06

Thanks Piratecat - were you listening in?

laurafairycake suggested it before, i though it a great non confrontational manner of wording.

instead of

you silly twats call yourselves hairdressers, what was the point of me sitting there for 3 hours for you to cock it up

!!
