'Everyday' necklaces - what kind do you wear and where did you get them

I am bored of wearing my usual diamond cross necklace and kind of like the idea of wearing something a bit more exciting, chunky and funky.

So, what do you wear as an everyday accessory and where did you get it? [nosy emoticon]

Thanks loads

If you have a bead shop near you go in there and make your own at a fraction of the cost. I get inspiration from ones in Monsoon and Fat Face and then shamelessly rip them off

Hulababy · 05/02/2009 19:48

I tend to get stuff in different colours from Accessorise.

Generally though I wear a thin gold chain and a small pendant.

janeite · 05/02/2009 19:53

I am allergic to most necklaces apart from silver and gold and I don't like gold. So I wear either a silver chain with a black cross on it (from next of all places) plus a tiny shrinky thing made by dd2 or I wear a black cord or ribbon with some kind of pendant on it: my favourite is a huge three dimensional silver heart from M&S.

I got a stunning necklace from this jewellery designer last year. I wear it most days and always get lovely compliments on it.

there are some nice bits and pieces on this web site here and they have a sale on at the moment!

cmotdibbler · 05/02/2009 20:19

I have some lovely glass bead necklaces that are my everyday ones. I bought them in a little shop that just sold that sort of thing, so not much help to you !

Aefondkiss · 05/02/2009 20:31

Folksy is good for browsing, it has such a huge range of styles.

I recently went into Ortak - not somewhere I usually go but I was waiting on someone and noticed they had a sale. I got a silver heart pendant with cut out hearts and an enamelled silver necklace for £35 , one had been £55 and the other £40 - so it might be worth a look? I had a look at the web site but the shop was better for choice of styles.

brimfull · 05/02/2009 20:32

I usually wear one
Get them from fatface/whitestuff/wallis..usually on offer as I am cheap

browntrout · 05/02/2009 20:38

Aefondkiss - great link. Like that website very much and can see myself spending many a happy hour there

mooseloose · 05/02/2009 20:41

Sainsburys are great - and Tesco are a second
But I got a gorgeous chunky bead one from laura ashley the other week. Next. Monsoon.

blametheparents · 05/02/2009 20:42

I wait until the sale in Monsoon and Fat Face and then buy!

blametheparents · 05/02/2009 20:43

I've got this and wear it a lot.

Supersalstrawberry - I have that necklace and I have worn it a lot as it goes with loads of different things!

large chunky black wooden bead necklace from Primark, cost £2.00 I think. Fab, fab, fab. Wear mine 3 or 4 days a week.

Primark do this style wooden necklace in other colours - I have one in 'natural' wood as well.

I couldn't do without some sort of large, black bead necklace - plain and simple.

101handbags · 06/02/2009 09:35

I am obsessed with big chunky jewellery, here are some nice places to look:

Pia

Treasurebox

Butler and Wilson - some of their stuff is a bit bling and garish but I have bought a couple of the more tasteful chunky stone necklaces in the past.

JRocks · 06/02/2009 09:38

I wear a lot of this sort of thing.

becstarlitsea · 06/02/2009 09:49

I bought my favourite one in 'Claires Accessories' It's a pair of folded wings on a chunky chain, and it's my lucky talisman, reminds me of my guardian angel being close by (I do realise how cringey that sounds, but I tend to be too honest on MN...). It cost 50p. I also have a rose quartz heart on a silver chain which I bought in a hippy shop near where we live - I love that one too - it cost about £20 I think, which is a lot of money for us but I wear it all the time.

time4tea · 06/02/2009 10:22

I got one lovely thing at the Origin Crafts fair in October (somerset house, the strand, London) by Grace Girvan. It is a little pebble on a silver chain - lovely.

www.gracegirvan.com/

also there's a funny shop on Oxford High Street, they sell large Murano glass round pendants, mother-of-pearl round pendants. Lovely

I've been to White stuff too. some nice necklaces there. I like a big pendant though, I fantasise it makes me look a bit less big (dream on.. I'm quite a big teapot)

time4tea · 06/02/2009 10:23

I remember now the name of the shop in Oxford - Oxford Holographics. half joke shop, half great jewellery shop - very friendly man running it

ChippyMinton · 06/02/2009 10:27

I have a friend who makes beaded necklaces, so I have a few of them. Accessorise is good, and (oddly enough) Bhs is worth a poke around.

Jewelsandgems · 06/02/2009 21:19

Thanks heaps ladies - lots of really excellent and stylish suggestions there.

wood chunky bead necklaces rule!!

AuntieMaggie · 07/02/2009 20:03

I tend to buy stuff in next, wallis, dorothy perkins, debenhams etc to go with my "day wear" especially when they have a sale on.

Sainsburys and asda are also great.
